Hi guys,
Used to post here a few years ago but then got out of the hobby. Then 8th rolled around and my mate talked me into dusting of my Guard to "just give it a go". There are now models on my desk for the first time in years. How are people finding guard this edition? I'm currently building a mechanised battalion, Elysian battalion, armoured spearhead list. I've no idea how it'll do but I'm loving the look and feel of it right now.

Welcome back! The Guard is doing really well this edition. Most of the options in the codex are good or even great, so you can get easily get away with including some of the "bad" options and still put a strong army on the board. I've outline some of the major changes that will probably affect the detachments you are building: Sadly the Chimera took quite a few hits with the new rules and the new codex: it is still a tough little tank but unless you play Tallarn, the accuracy on most of the weapons drops considerably if you move. It also lost the 'firing port' rule so passengers can't shoot special weapons out of the back. So it's a rather different vehicle then it was in previous editons; not bad, but for me it took some getting used to. Russ Tanks are in a pretty good place right now, apart from the exterminator(?) they all got an increase in firepower. And the exterminator stayed mostly the same. However you need to keep them out of melee combat: a single Gretchin will keep the tank from firing. I have zero experience playing with or against Elysians. But they look cool, and they'll probably do well. Good luck on the battlefield.

I've never won a single game ever and I've only played one game of 8th edition. BUT!-- it's a relaxing hobby and always makes for a good weekend when I can get a game in.
