I've decided to build an army of Black Legion Heretic Astartes. I know, another new army! I just love the new Chaos Sculpts (they're just too detailed for the price!) Hopefully I can get a playable force together quickly. I've finished my first Havoc. I went with a darker brassy gold (I'm building my boy an Ultramarines force and didn't want them to look too alike!) With that in mind I've included a green as a spot colour to mix up the colours a bit. Also a nod to the Sons of Horus. My gaming board has a grey sheet over it so I've gone with a city fight basing scheme. Here's the pics: Black Legion Havoc Black Legion Havoc Black Legion Havoc Black Legion Havoc I had a lot of trouble with the ammo feed, hopefully it doesn't look too bad! Thanks for looking.

Really beautiful painting there. I found black a hard colour to paint on power armour.
Is that on a 40mm base? Typical of GW to change base sizes again; can't believe devastator equivalents have gone from 25->32->40mm in recent years.

Thanks Cheminhaler! I had good practice doing the Black Templars!
It is a 40mm base. They’re slightly heavier than the old ones. I may use them as the basis for some characters. In game they have a toughness of 5!

Don't worry chaps, this is clearly just a volunteer Guardsman in a bulky armoured suit to act as an OPFOR on training exercises. No actual heretic would take such excellent care of his equipment or put so fine a shine on his armour.

I like the clean armor look on the troops, its shows them as professional while still keeping the Chaos theme. The muted plasma/hair highlights also add to the overall color without getting distracting like some over OSL can be.
I'm interested to see a full squad -T

Thanks very much! I've finally finished my first squad of Havocs! I won't be fielding them like this but I've finished my first box. Really enjoying working on these. The basic squaddies are more detailed than some other faction's elites! Black Legion Havocs Black Legion Havocs Black Legion Havocs Black Legion Havocs I currently only have 1 box of Marines so they'll be next up. Thanks for looking!

Cool stuff: some of those havocs look like they need some toenail clippers though.

Lol! Somehow these long toe nails enable them to move and fire heavy weapons! So I can forgive them for a lack of personal grooming.

Great job on the cooler teal/green blue color mixed with the Black legion, it captures the cleaner but still sinister character the legion is known for. I'm interested to see how it'd look on a vehicle like a Rhino or mauler/forge fiend. -T

Thanks nutty, I had a choice between giving the Champion an icon or the trophy rack. Glad you like the bit.
T, I’m a little way off vehicles/Daemon Engines atm. I’ll be building all the basic Infantry plus 3 squads of Havocs first but they’re in the plan!
Thanks for the replies.

Another milestone to report. I've finished my first squad of troops! These 5 will be bolstered by the Chaincannon pictured with the Havoc squad (previously pictured) Black Legion Black Legion Black Legion Black Legion Black LegionReally happy with the quality of the sculpts. Makes the models lots of fun to paint! Next up wil be another 5 CSM (I'll be running them in 6's with a heavy weapon in each)

I'm really digging the scheme of clean black/teal colors mixed with the worn look of faded steel. Those high lights look great too, just enough to convey the color without going full overload ala the new Primaris marine style paint jobs.
They look excellent as a group with that basing scheme, can't wait to see more -T

Cheers guys!
I settled on the black and green to try and add a personal touch to what are the “poster boys” of the Chaos Legions. I’m trying to keep them as dark and brooding as possible. Thanks for the interest!

I just assumed the green/teal was a throwback to the Sons of Horus; the combo works great no mattet what.

Got it in one! I used the colours I had mixed up for when I painted Horus! Horus Lupercal Horus Heresy 005 Everyone does red for them so I thought I’d do something different. My painting lamp has died so not sure when my next update will be.

Really fantastically detailed squad.
If you haven't read Talon of Horus, by ADB, I thoroughly recommend it.
Obviously you're going to get the new Abaddon at some point to go alongside his gene father.

Fantastic Horus model, I really like the fur shading and work on the teal ribbons looks realistic.
Are you planning to have a mirrored force of 30K troops to match your 40k sets? A "before and after" heresy if you will?

Cheminhaler, thanks! I haven’t read it yet (though it’s on my to-get list!) I’ll get it on audiobook so I can listen to it whilst painting. And yes, Abaddon is a must!
Bookies, I wish I had the resources to do that! I’ll just have to concentrate on my Black Legion.

Finally finished my second squad of Marines for my Black Legion! Can't say enough good things about these kits, they're really fun to paint and model. I'm not the most patient of people so I usually get frustrated when building models! These have flown together. Anyway here's the pics: Black Legion Black LegionBlack Legion Black Legion Black Legion Thanks for looking.
