Hello,
I got into Guard back when doctrines were a big part of their Codex. Though they could be a massive point sink (I'm looking at you Hardened Fighters) I always loved their creative and fun potential. I've kinda missed them since they disappeared.
However I must say I really rather like our current book. With all the regiment specific abilities, orders, stratagems, and warlord traits I have come up with a new version of the old doctrines system. The idea is that you pick 1 trait from each of the 4 categories below to create your regiment. I have also included options from Imperial Armour Index: Forces of the Astra Militarum, Death Korps and Elysian lists too, though I have had to translate them a little bit so that they can work with the general Codex. Feel free to comment with your thoughts and ideas, or any fluffy or lethal combinations you might come up with.
