Hey all, I'm working on my Flames of War army, I could use some help tracking down some British & Commonwealth unit insignias from WWII that I have on a decal sheet. The ones I cannot identify are the following... - White horse on green background (middle row) - Red & White shield with triangles on it (middle row) - Black bird on white background (lower right) - Platypus on black background (third row from the bottom, obviously an Aussie unit) Just to add to the challenge, some of the colors aren't accurate and at least a few of these are from the Italian theater. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For the curious, the ones I have identified are... - The 4th Indian Division (Red bird on green background) - 1st Canadian Division (White leaf on red background) - 51st Highland Division (Red "HD" in circle on blue background) - 50th Northumbrian Division (Red TT on black background) - 78th Battleaxe Division (The, well, battleaxe on black background) - 2nd New Zealand Division (Kiwi feather on black background) Any help is greatly appreciated!

The black bird on white background looks like a Liverbird (pronounced Lie-ver-bird). Looked familiar due to it being the main part Liverpool Football clubs badge. Did a little digging and found this: www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/3007187123rd Armoured Brigade, and 23rd Independent Armoured Brigade (TA (Territorial Army - now know as Army Reserves)). Hope that helps.

The red and white shield looks like its either a cross or hourglass pattern of opposite colours. Iv used all my google-fu skills and cant find anything. Iv looked through every British and Commonwealth division on wikipedia, and of the emblems that are shown, that one isnt one of them.
That said iv found a couple of not so close matches. USA 7th inf div had a black hourglass in a red circle, and the US 11th armoured div has a half red half white shield, with a black horse. Is they a chance that FoW have mixed the two for players to have fictional units? Or just plain invented the emblem for the same reason?

The 7th was deployed to the Pacific, and the 11th didn't see action until the Battle of the Bulge, so I doubt it's either of them. These decal sheets are just Brits & Commonwealth and apparently cover North Africa and Italy. Thank you for your detective work though, it's been a great help! Got any pictures of your tanks Reds? I just posted my 100pts in my picture thread. Once I wrap up my free Poles I'll post a group photo.

I found this: Which has a red hourglass on a white field for the 1st army. And this: Where it is said to be used to denote a formation during operation crusader. It isn't the insignia your looking for, but maybe it gets you a little closer in your search. The hourglass is also called a diabolo when it comes to heraldry. So that might help in future google searches.

You have to do some tanks as the 9th Armoured Brigade; that green horse transfer looks quite good.
