Heya,
So I've slowly been building up the parts to construct the meme tank; the stormlord loaded to the brim with heavy and special weapons.
This purely for fun, and from my research looks to be a bad idea in terms of actual play which makes me like it even more!
So the idea is to physically represent as many of the weapons teams as possible and add sandbags and various other details to make an all in one diorama, with commander shouting into a vox, proud Regimental banner bearer, medic dealing with a casualty etc.
I play a sort of mash of 8th edition (except with weapon fire arcs and rear armour, plus a few other tweaks, namely the use of 5th eds FOC for basic detachment and no CP as we dont use stratagems), and usually use Power Level as my regular opponents are my son's Tau and Tyranids, and my partner's Grot horde, so we keep it simple as she's still learning the game.
I've put together this list so far:
Embarked in Stormlord:
1 X commander
1 X astropath (I had 1 spare PL so why not)
1 X command squad
3 X heavy weapon squad
The rest of the army:
2 X basic infantry squad
2 X Chimera (Gryphonne)
4 x HellHound (Artemis)
This brings me to roughly the same size army as the Grot Horde (which is 78 PL)
Technically, I should have only one command squad, as I only have one commander, so I may switch 2 units over to rattling snipers.(though my opponents are happy with them being command squads as it's a joke list anyway).
The tank will have 4 sponsons, probably heavy flamers.
I'm thinking catachan works best for all the flamers, though cadian would be handy if I were to go for a more static play style.
The main tactic would be to flame rush the opponent and explode!
Hopefully the infantry that survive can then cling to any objectives!
(We usually have 9 objectives, 3 of which are worth 2 points and the rest 1 point, scored at the start of the players turn).
What load outs would you suggest for the units?
Edit: I could switch hellhounds for Sentinels though quite like the all tank feel.
Further edit: I have a feeling the shadowsword post in this topic may have inspired this project! - thanks to machinegunkelly and reds for igniting a slow burn idea!
