Hi,
I've never used a chimera before, I don't see the point.
People say they are good for snatching objectives, but surely deep striking storm troopers would be better, cheaper and have a higher WS? Also an armoured fist squad out in front of the rest of the guard line is sure to get charged and smashed to bits.
I would like to use an armoured fist squad because I just like the idea, but I just can't help thinking that spending the points on more platoons is more likely to win games.
If anyone can give advice on how to use a chimera, please reply. Also how do you equip yours? I think if I ever did use one I'd go for multi-laser and heavy flamer. Pintle heavy stubber? Anything else?
Thanks.

They are basically mobile pill boxes. And the fact that they can hold and move troops is a bonus. They are the most useful tank in your arsenal! They are fast and deadly!!! USE THEM!!!

ok, so their main use is as a mobile gun platform. So multi-laser, Heavy bolter and Pintle heavy stubber then? 97points
Why is this better than a hellhound? 115points including hull H bolter.
Is it unwise to use them to leave a squad of guard out on their own then?

Uhm, well, they can move troops in two times faster than if they were walking, and it offers greater protection. Its an APC so it really gives you a tactical advantage by having infantry support, and the advantage of mobility. Its quite cool.

multilaser on the turret, either that or a heavy bolter. also a bolter on the hull. And definitely a stubber on the top. That way you've got a whole whack o weapons on this nice little mobile bunker. So you can deal out the hurt real well. Good luck comrade.

i got some twin linked hvy bolter turrets useful for clearing out orks but as the commisar says there rapid, and good for flanking your enemy also there one of the hardest troop transports to kill if you give them track guards and extra armour they can become a real handful, and deep striking is becoming a little prodictable and boring these days so it add some spice to the mix,

yesh, upgrades are where its at! Use them or your transport will throw a track or just plain pop.

I make it a point to put Hunterkillers on every Chimera. They don't cost much and are quite effective. They really drive people crazy.

commisar any one would thinl your trying to get canada to go commie, but chims are great especialy when you mix it up with variants and add on's sure it gets pricey points wise but you can end up with a troop transport that can go toe to toe with a predetor or something of that ilk

Chimera as a pill box... Hm, never thought of it that way. But yeah, that would make up for it's high price. It's just a shame on its low side.

IMO the best use for a chimera is to wait behind a platoon, as a stationary pillbox as it were, then wait until the enemy hits your lines, and drop another squad of guard behind them, and shoot from there.
It works excellent. Sometimes I put a sanctioned psyker in mine, which is an interesting twist to think about.
