Can I use Tyranid with guards as I can with Kroots? Or must I use tha kroot rules for them, then?

I don't know the Kroot rules so I can't comment on that.
There's nothing stopping you from using 2 force organisation charts for friendly games.
One with IG and the other with 'Nids.

In 2nd ed you use to be able to take a genestealer cult army which was a mix of tyranids and IG, but I've never seen any rules for them in 3rd or 4th ed. Maybe if it's a friendly game they'll let you use nids with certain restrictions-
ie. you can only use unmutated tyranid troops choices.
Any tyranid units use up troop slots but don't count as your compulsary choices.
For example you could have a normal IG army (1 HQ and 2 Troop choices) along with two broods of gaunts. So your army would have 1 HQ and 4 Troops.

you say they were being used like slaver units....? maybe use them like kroot hounds (they are attached to Ig with chains or controllers of sorts) and if the squad falls back from shooting say the guants turn on them and kill them, then guants run off. its an idea

anybody else seen the latest nid book? Its nasty, I really don't know how I'm gonna deal with them.
kroot are mercs and will fight for pay, nids won't, so it'd have to be a friendly and probably need to use the handler style rules suggested by Raven for the little ones (whos gonna hold a carnifex on a lead??!?!? - Go fetch boy!)
Expect hoards! they're so low in points ther're cheaper than guardsmen (conscipts even!)!!!!

I think tyranids could be used how the terrans did in starcraft .. call them to an enemies planet and infest it.

Check this out: uk.games-workshop.com/imperialguard/doctrines/2/ for the modern idea on the genestealer cult army. Simply put, Tyranids would never be "pets", the genestealers would infect and subjugate a large proportion of the planet in preparation for the Tyranid arrival. At this point they would then leap out of hiding and sabotage main defences while the genestealers hunted behind enemy lines... When I grow up, I'm gonna be a genestealer cult. Tanks and Rending claws - yummy!
