I am going to participate in a rather large game on Saturday. Here's what I will be using:
Command squad: -H.S.O. bolt pistol, power weapon, trade mark item and carapace armour. -Melta gun -Plasma gun -Veteren with company banner -Veteren with a Lasgun
Storm trooper squad 1: -Veteren sergeant, Honorifica Imperialis, power wepon, plasma pistol. -2 Storm troopers equipped with flamers -7 Sorm troopers eqipped with Hellguns -Chimera with a Multi laser and Heavy stubber
Storm trooper squad 2:
-Veteren sergeant, bolter, close combat weapon. -2 Storm troopers equipped with Grenade lanchers -2 Storm troopers equipped with Hellguns
Storm trooper squad 3:
-Sergeant, hell gun and close combat weapon. -4 Storm troopers equipped with Hell guns
Leman Russ: -Hull mounted Lascannon -Pintle mounted storm bolter
I will be facing Tau, necrons and marines. I might be able to pursuade the marine player to side with me, so he isn't a problem. The Tau won't be any bother either. I have bee using Tau for 2 years and I know how to beat them. It's the Necrons I am concerned about. The last time I played this guy I used my Tau and I managed to get a victorious slaughter against him. This time I am not so confident, I am using guard!

List looks nice. Sothing really big i can find wrong with it.
OK so, i started with guard and i have a big army, and i also happen to play a 1500 point necron army so.
The easiest thing to do is to have high stength wepons. If your wepon doubles there strength, they can't come back with the special rule. This rule is going to end up your bigest problem.
If he through is monolith in the mix, and he prepares to deep strike, be ready, if and when he deepstrikes, he can pull through a squad and cause havoc behind you lines.
If no monolith focus on the lord, he will most likely be your next biggest threat, if he's a smart player his lord will have a resurection orb, this alows his necrons to stand back up even after an instant kill. The catch is he has to be within 6" of the unit for this to happen, take advantage of that. Any stray necrons, pound them with your russ, as the battle cannon will double the necron warriros strenth and also allow no armor, this is you best bet on stopping them.
Your problem will be the lord, you would need a strenth 10 thing in order to insntant kill him but he is a big chunk of you oppents force, he can get up to about the same cost of your russ. So try to kill him asap. If he as a veil of darkness also, he can telport anywhere on the board in the movment phase, along with a squad he may have attached too.
If there are immortals, just stay away, there weapon will tear you to shreds. If his lord is attached to this squad, they are your main priority seeing as they may be able to teleport right next to you, and destroy alot of storm troopers, seeing as they get no armor save.
Just remeber, kill enough and they will phase out.
If you already knew all this sorry for wasting your time, if not i hope it helps you.

Oh yeah, you do, i looked through it again, your stomrtroopers arent' full, you may want more people, give them plasma/melta guns you want the fire power and you want more so the squads can survive much longer. How many points is the "Big Battle".

Well it ain't that big, but it's the biggest battle I have taken part in for about 6 months. Since I wrote my last post we have changed things a bit. The marines and necrons will be using roughly 1800 points. The guard and Tau will be using roughly 800 points. The Tau and Necrons will be allied, as are the marines and guard. Thanks .found, I did know all the things you had mentioned, but I am still very greatful. You must have spent quite some time there, thanks! Oh, and the thing with the storm troopers is that I use forge world guardsmen and they don't come with Plasma/melta guns, resin is quite tricky to convert so I am qite stuck with weapons. This is more of a showcase army and so it's not all that effective on the battlefield.

I had forgotten about Commisars. I have two Commisars equipped with Plasma Pistols and Power weapons. I have to take one in the command squad, the other will go with my Chimera mounted storm trooper squad.

If your playing with a SM player then take lots of troops with lots of HW's.
If you have an allie then you need to work as a team. The Grenadiers doc is Ok if you want your IG army to be like a Smurf army but whats the point if you're fighting alongside smurfs.
Use the IG's main strength - Its firepower. Take lots of HW's and GL's so you can stand back and shoot.
The Smurfs should go equipped for CC so they can take the brunt of any assault.
SM's and IG should play to their strengths, and if done well are unstoppable. But if you try and play IG like Smurfs and the SM player goes all shooty then you're just making life difficult for yourselves.
So take as many men with as many big guns as you can.

Death Korp Grenadiers. They are VERY expensive! I am going to GW before the battle and so I will probably buy another Chimera. What do you guys think?

Hello all, sorry about my absence in the last couple of days (been painting quite a bit) I had the game(s) on Saturday and it didn't go too badly. I ended up with two draws, on the up side though, I did kill the Nightbringer and taught those Tau not to mess with the Imperium! The first game went very well until the last turn. There were 6 objectives on the board and by turn 5 the Imperial guard and Space marines held 4 of them. This didn't last! in the final turn three necron destroyers contested one of them, a squad of marines that had been holding one objective for the entire game was almost wiped out by goodness knows how many fire warriors and Necron warriors and another was lost because of a (bad word for poo) load of pulse rifles destroing a unit of storm troopers. It was a very hard fought and rewarding game!
