So my army idea is a bit wacky (especially the rough riders ;D) but i wanted to think up a crazy list that would take most players by surprise so here it is. And any advice or critique is welcome.

Nice list, i would like to see it in action, unfortunatly i noticed some problems, and correct me if i'm wrong, you need to purchase rough riders using a doctrine point, you also need to purchase hardened vets (the vetrens doctrine only allows you to have 3, it dosen't un restrict them ) This means taking out frop troops, which may make you want to change your ideas around, it would have been really nice, but unfortunatly, the amount of doctrine points only allow a fair amount of specialized troops.

I didn't think u had to buy back vets, but could well be wrong, haven't checked the codex. You do have to buy back rough riders tho, and u are missing the command squad from the heavy platoon. Drop the heavy platoon, you don't need it, simply add those to your command platoon which will give u a free doctrine to get the rough riders, saves buying another command squad (which u don't have point for anyway), and means that they are HQ and not heavy so can be placed last . On a personnal level, I wouldn't take that many las cannons, I'd go for missile launchers or autocannons, but that is just my preference, 9 las cannons seems a bit OTT unless ur fighting an armoured company or expecting lots of land raiders. Same goes for the melta guns on the vets. U may want to think about dropping 1 plasma gun from the command squad and add a medic instead, always fire ur JO plasma pistol first, then use the medic if it overheats and he fails the armour save. U only have 1 wound on ur leader so don't really want him killing himself. Love the look of it tho, nice idea.

Right, You do need a command officer and retuine for the Heavy Weapons Platoon. Secondly, I know its cheap, but having a JO leading the army is a bad idea, either give him the Honourifc Imperialis or take a HSO. either will work.
Secondly, you do need to by Grenadiers, which you have done, and veterans, which you have done. So drop the Drop Troops doctorine, no point for it really, and take the Rough Riders doctorine, it will make your life so much easier.
Also, I noticed you have a lot of anti-tank weaponry, change some of the weapons in the Heavy Weapon Platoon, I suggest this for a set up
JO with 4 Veterans and 2 Missile Launchers 3 Heavy Bolters 3 Mortars 3 Lascannons
Also, when and if you want to make it 2000 points, I suggest you either invest in 3 sentinals and/or a leman russ.
The Sentinals will give you some fast moving anti-armour or Anti-infantry weaponry, with the ability to move and fire, so you could give them auto-cannons, or lascannons for anti-tank
The Leman russ would give you fast moving, hard hitting power to protect your chimeras, using its battle cannon to get rid of pesky anti-armour squads.
Thats just my input. hope you take it on boards.
The Commissar
