So heres what I have got so far: 1.The codex(duh) 2.Command Squad 3.Anti-Tank team 4.Full platoon 'O guard
So what Im trying to go for here is a 1000 point army that specialises in versatility, and rapid response for taking objectives (its sad how few think about OBJECTIVES). Any ideas you come up with would be nice!

Rough riders would be a good option, that way you have a reasonably reliable counter-attack unit for when you get assaulted. Are you interested in Tanks? if so I would get a Chimera for the command squad.
Veterans are great, they are also very versatile, you can accomidate them for any battlefield role, 3 Grenade launchers are a safe bet and mabey a heavy bolter. If you are interested in a another assault unit equip the veteran squad with cc weapons and las pistols or even shotguns, these would be quite fun, if you wanted to be cruel you could have up to three flamers in the squad. Nasty!

should perhaps think about what will do most of your killing its rairly the las guns normaly its the crew served support fire weapon, that gets the most bangs for your bucks so perhaps look at some auto cannons they kill loads. manouverability isnt the guards strong point mostly its let them come to you or alternativly you grind them down but for a bit of speed a armoured fist squad might be good and if your spending a bit order the forge world twin linked H/bolter turret for the chim. its just that bit more dak daka

thanks for the advice! Im leaning towards either a leman russ or rough riders. So, should I forego mobile firepower for a manuverable counter-assualt squad, or vice-versa?

i suggest 2 five man squads of kasrkin armed to the b-b-b-bone with hard hitting plasma guns.....very simple very cheap and very deadly...acts well with supporting ure inf platoons in gaining objects or to simply infiltrate and go suicidal on the unlucky foe who gets ambushed

Having 2 5-man Kasrkrin squad is SO much better than 1-10 man one, as yu can take 4 heavy weapons instead o' 2. The only downside is morale.

As for your questions, I play when I can with my friend who collects SM and Necs, and we play on a 4" by 4" board with plenty o' terrain. I like to play with my fellow hobbyists at my local GW store, which is just a half hour subwar ride away. Tommorow is actually my birthday and me and my friend are competing there in a "hunt the fallen" tourne. Its gonna be awsome!

hey thanks man! by the way as a present to myself I bought a Leman Russ with lascannon and dual-heavy bolters. So NOW I can roll out the large templates a and Roast some Xeno-scum!
On another note I failed to note I also have a squad of 5 ratlings.
