hi guys, listening to your comments and all, ive decided to go with this list, for now, and try it out. What would you think of it, if you saw it against you on the table? Please, im trying not to go power mad here, i wanted something fair but playable.. i dont do min/maxing, and i certainly dont like power gamers.. ok. here goes. Command Squad HSO - bolt pistol, power weapon, carapace armour, M cross. Regimental Standard, Trademark item (cyber dog), Vet (for Standard), Master vox comes in at 167 points all in. Anti tank squad, 3 Lascannons Mortar squad, 3 Mortars comes in at 190 all in. Cmd of Platoon 1 JO, Power weapon, Plasma pistol, Honorifica, Mortor, Vox 95 points Squad 1 ML, vox, GL, 88 pts all in Squad 2 ML, vox, Gl, 88 pts. Cmd Platoon 2 Jnr Officer, Mortor, Melta gun, vox (melta gun squad will sit on flank, i know a guy i play regularly who throws a vyper or the likes down a flank to get a pot shot, might come in handy, and besides, i had some points. 71 pts. Squad 3 ML, vox, GL 88pts Squad 4 ML, vox, GL 88pts. Hardened Veterans (yea i took FOREVER making shotguns for these lads, so they are SO staying, and besides, i think shotguns are ace ) Shotguns, 10 men, Autocannon, Vox 158 pts, all in Chimera (might be for these guys, but i might swap around, give one cmd squad the chimera, let it be a mini anti light infantry platform to work around) Multi Laser, heavy bolter, Heavy stubber, RTM, 102 pts all in. Leman Russ, Lascannon, HB's, 170. Leman Russ, Lascannon, HB's, 170. leaving me 25 pts to use. Thoughts? Suggestions? no, i DONT want a power gaming army, but if something GLARES out in a weakness, dont hesitate! ta, very muchly.. Jess. x

wow, is it that good that u cant suggest anything?!
or are u worried im gonna get stroppy lol
Seriously, im playing against an Ork army on thursday, with this list, how would i fare? (ive been given the scare stories.. upwards of a hundred and fifty orks, no vehicles, is his favourite army, but he has been known to use the diet dreadnaught things, whatever theyre called, and looted russes.. little thief. )
Would i be in trouble? I know the mortars arent totally perfect, but pinning a few orks down cant be that difficult...can it?

actuallyit can.....large ork mobs would make it even hard for ork mobs to take leadership tests....if ure up agenst wut u think ure up agenst...basically pummel the hell out of the closet mob coming towards ure lines. lemun russes and that chimera are good for those
i would substitute a mortar squad for a heavy bolter squad.....

ok, so, swapping the Mortars for HB, sounds ok, but would you say permanently? or just for this game? what about, say, against nids/ tau/ marines..? (mainly the first two, i know they suck against marines and theyre and they shall know no losing)
Does the list sound viable? i mean, most of it IS built, but thanks to my ordering ability ( heh ) Ive got another forty guardsmen, and another russ.. oh and three ML's spare lol

ok, FINALLY took my newly built IG to GW tonight, and faced two entirely different armies... one SM, and a Speed Freaks army!!! (for the record, can anyone else tally up my points roughly and see if im 1500 pts.. i felt SO much like i hadn't got half as much as anyone else!!!) The SM army had, ironically, no tanks, but had two dreads, usual outlook, assaulty cannon and fist, and three seperate speeders, the assault cannon/other gun things. And many many men. probably 40 marines? with that bolter/chainsword combo, and counter. or something like that. Anyway, if anyone wants a proper run down of the match, no problem, but i lost every squad. one by one. those speeders are stupid against guard. i lost a SQUAD to EACH speeder! it was madness! then the russes took a pounding, without much in return by my side.. the two mortors from the CS's did more damage then anything i could throw at them! I thought i had done well when my Hard Vets, who never saw much action apart from being ganged up by two dreads, took half of his Deployment zone away, after rolling off for infiltrate (he took all infiltrate, the bolter in one hand one..) Not too bothered, i then took on a guy they call "swampy" in the vets group. with a speed freaks army.. Seriously.. that is a MEAN army! First turn was impressive, i had knocked out two of the three trukks, and blew guns off almost everything else.. and then next turn, he promptly repaired them all! then, after that, zapp guns (3 of em) blew my tanks to bits, and after that, it was all downhill. It was only then, did i realise, that the following was essential for winning in future. a) Drop all the shiny bits off the command squads. wasted points. b) get more men! c) dont forget to bring your mortar squad to the game, as i left them at home! and mostly d) know your rules, or have someone who knows them nearby! I was stuck with mr unhappy game 1, who was trying so hard to get me disqualified for playing with an "unfinished" army.. he even treble (yes, TREBLE) checked my army list to make sure i wasnt cheating! good points EA, track guards.... essential. Heavy stubber, priceless. Hardened vets are fun.. but i think i need a LOT of meltaguns or plasma guns in them. Shotguns never did much, even against orks.. i am perfect at aiming with mortars, who accounted for a devestator squad, a trukk, thirteen orks, and a commander, without any problems so, thoughts? comments? What should i change? xx

sounds like you got banged out by a bit of sneeky smurfing did you chek there list, i recon a ickle bit of cheating may have happened dont worry about it, as for your troop choices there's not a lot wrong with them at the end of a day smurfs got a 3+ save and its so hard to get them to stay down, my advice is smurf inf armies need lots of shots as the ammount of Ig weapons that get a smurf dead straight away are rare where as fifty conscripts firing 100 shots is going to give you good hits, its a ratio's thing you just got to put more rounds down. also a couple of bassies tucked away never hurt either, as for speed freeks i dont fight ork much but got to go for a stand fast unit and let them come to you with loads of dug in crew served heavy weapons best of luck to you but what i find is tooling up Ig is pretty pointless numbers get you victory

Capitalise please. But seriously, you army is good. Vets MUST take 3 special weapons, or you might as well have used stormies. The HQ dosen't have too many shiny bits for it to be problematic, and the macharian cross is the bane of high-speed armies accross the universe.
It would be easier also if you posted the actuall points cost of you entire army please, and your doc's as well.
Take the Iron discipline doctrine for yon officers and drop the voxes, if you intend to use your infantry as a singular firebase. it'll save you a fair amount of points and your men will actually rally,
Autocannons are the ultimate killers of dreadnaughts and speeders. And transports. You need some.
If your a real mortar fan, take a griffon. it costs as much as a ten man infantry squad with a vox and a melta/plasmagun. Its also a great light-infantry killer.
marines fold to LRBT's, dinna worry about them. If your
