I am new to imperial guard but not to Warhammer. My army list is a fairly standard one, and I am wondering weather it will work. I have not bought many models yet and so any changes can be made.
I don’t know the exact points of each unit because I can’t find my codex but I know that this army is around 1000pts.
HQ: Senior officer with storm bolter, ccw, master crafted power sword and mech cross. Retinue is standard bearer, 1 Guardsman with plasma gun and 2 guardsmen with ccw's.
Troops: Platoon Command: JO with power weapon and bolt pistol. 2 guardsmen with flamers and 2 guardsmen with ccw’s.
Squads: 10 guardsmen. One is a veteran sergeant, one has a grenade launcher and two men are in a weapons team with heavy bolter. x2
10 guardsmen. One is a veteran sergeant, one has a plasma gun and two men are in a weapons team with a missile launcher. x2
5 storm troopers with two melta guns 70pts
Heavy Support: Leman Russ with hull mounted heavy bolter x2
Doctrines: Grenadiers Sharpshooters Iron Dissipline Chem-inhalers + something else

Looks like a good start to me. I don't think u are up to 1000 points tho, quickly toting up ur points it looks more like 600ish, so if ur aiming at 1k core, then u'll need to add a few things. (I haven't added the cost of any doctrines).
Grenadiers are good, but u may find u don't have enough troops on the table.
I'd consider adding a couple of heavy weapon squads. Start with missile launchers and autocannons, which are good jack of all trade guns.
Also, you may want to look into adding some vox casters, they are cheap and imo very useful. U can still give the operator cc weapons (if in a command squad).
Basilisks and Hellhounds are reasonably cheap points wise, and will give u some extra kik too.
Hope that helps. Find ur codex, tot up ur points, and see what else u can fit in.

Ill add it up as soon as possible.
I was also thinking of having a large conscript squad to draw enemy fire away from my main troops.
Is it a good idea to deepstrike a unit of storm troopers with two meltas behind an enemy tank? They'll almost certainly destroy it.

Conscripts are great, I love using them. However, I do find that they don't tend to draw fire away from other squads as much as you would think. People usually pass their ld test and shoot who ever they like . However they are a great screen from being assaulted . I've toyed with 20 man sqads of conscripts, and they generally haven't been targeted much. Next time I use them I will take more, and maybe max out on heavy and special weapons. THey can't shoot that well, but a 50 man squad with 5 heavy bolters and 5 nade launchers can't really be ignored . DS storm troopers with meltas behind a tank is a great idea , and will usually work. They do tend to be suicide missions tho, so don't expect to be able to use them the next turn unless u can get the hull of the tank between them and the enemy. 5 man squads for this role seem to be the norm.
