I am a former Marine. I was noting how similar a USMC Battalion Landing Team is to an Imperial Guard force org. Would just have to scale down the numbers (like a BLT Infantry Company wound = an IG Infantry Platoon.) A BLT normally fields 1200+ Marines, could not fathom painting up that many Guardsmen...
Anyways, here is what I was looking at (and realize that the goal is to have a playable army that is still recognizable as a USMC BLT)...
A USMC Battalion Landing Team:
1 Infantry Battalion (consisting of 1 HQ Co, 3 Inf Co, 1 Wpns Co)
1 Combat Engineers Platoon
1 Assault Amphibian Platoon (LVTP-7)
1 Artillery Battery (Towed Howitzers)
1 Reconnaissance Platoon
1 Light Reconnaissance Platoon (LAV-25's)
1 TOW Section (Anti-Tank HMMVW's)
1 Shore Fire Control Party (ANGLICO)
Note that one of the Infantry Companies is designated the Amphib Company, another is designated the Helo-Company, this denotes their training for deployment by AAV or Helo-insertion/Fast-roping.
• Each Infantry Company in the BLT would be a TR choice Infantry Platoon in the IG, with four squads each (to represent the four Platoons that an Infantry Company has.) Three TR slots would be used. Each squad would field a Heavy Bolter to represent the
Machine Gun assets for the unit.
• There is no equivalent to Combat Engineers in the IG force org, but the HQ slot can choose to field up to one Special Weapons Squad with a few Demo Charges, this can represent. An the additional benefit of Snipers in the Special Weapons Squad to represent the BLT STA Platoon. This “becomes” part of the HQ and does not take up an additional slot on its own.
• There is no equivalent to Weapons Platoon in the IG force org, but the HQ slot can choose to field up to two support squads of Mortars and two anti-tank squads of Missile Launchers. In effect, these 4 squads making the extended HQ choice “become” Weapons Company, representing the Mortars and Dragon Sections.
• The Assault Amphibian Platoon in a BLT is to provide transportation for the designated “Amphib Company.” To equate this to force org terms, one Platoon (four squads) are designated Imperial Fists and given Chimera Transports.
• The Artillery Battery for a BLT are towed howitzers. Not going to spend FW $$ to get the towed stuff, so equating a Basilisk Battery (three), this fills all three HV slots.
• Reconnaissance Platoon becomes a squad of either Kasrkin Stormtroopers or Hardened Veterans with either the Infiltrate or Deep Strike skills, they take up an EL choice.
• Light Reconnaissance Platoon becomes two Sentinel Squadrons of three each with multi-lasers or Autocannons, they take up two FA slots.
• TOW’s becomes a Sentinel Squadron armed with Missile Launchers, and takes up an FA slot.
• Shore Fire Control Party has no game applicable equivalent, so is dropped.
In the end, the IG army would field 1HQ, 3TR, 1EL, 3HV, 3FA, and there is still plenty of room for doctrines, skills, wargear, etc. to make this a viable force. The only place I see obvious
struggles with the org is against vehicle-heavy or high-toughness forces. Because I tried to keep it mostly organized like a BLT, I took no Lascannons. Sacrifice for fluff? Or suck it up and take some Lascannons?
