So I have about a month to refine a 1000 pt list for a club tournament, and I wanted some imput on my particular list. My teammate will be running Eldar. Our plan is to try to get her troops into close combat, and I'm going to try to suppourt her as best I can with either firepower or extra bodies in the assault. I'm still trying to decide between Light Infantry or Sharpshooters.
Doctrines: Drop Troops Iron Discipline Light Infantry (or Sharpshooters)
HQ: Senior Officer with Plasma Pistol and Power weapon, Surveryor and carapace armour. Medic with lasgun Lascannon team Grenade Luancher Commissar with Bolt Gun and power weapon
1st Platoon: HQ: Junior officer with laspistol and CC Weapon and Surveyor 2 Grenade launcher 2 lasguns
1st Squad 1 Plasma Gun, 9 Lasguns
2nd Squad 1 Melta Gun, 9 Lasguns
3rd Squad 1 Heavy Bolter, 9 Lasguns
2nd Platoon: HQ: Junior Officer with Bolt Pistol CC weapon and surveyor retinue armed same as above
Rest of platoon armed same as above
1 Leman Russ Tank with Lascannon and Sponson Heavy Bolters
I played just my list against my friend's Necrons and I wiped the floor with him (only lost two and a half squads + I knocked out his monolith.) I hope that wasn't a fluke, any suggestions?

Okay... I shall now evaluate *puts on accountants specs*
1. You seem to have a great many special weapons and not too many heavies. I'm not entirely sure if thats good or bad, but conventinal wisdom suggests heavies are to be taken in prefenrence to specials. 2.Since you have 2 remaining doc. points, may I suggest that you never bother with infiltrators and take drop troops instead. It costs nowt and is far better for objective grabbing. 3. take camo instead of 'sharps, its better if your gonna hug the terrain. 4.drop the plasma from the HSO and buy two power weapons for the JO's. your gonna use them to slow up any assaulting troops as their leadership bonus is too low to be worth being assaulted for.
Thats all. I wish you 'intelligance'. I would wish you luck, but it runs out far quicker than you'd believe.

This list has a good base but I have a few suggestions. Like my comrade Rolling Thunder I believe more heavy weapons are in order, especially if you don't have to worry about CC (the eldar will deal with that I assume) The 36"/48" range of heavy weapons keep you firing for longer and out of the enemies range (sometimes ) Heres what I'd do. 1. Drop the commisar. In this small of a battle and with someone dealing with the assault for you, he isn't really needed (although the new models are awesome ;D) 2. My suggestion for doctrines 1. Close Order Drill (free and you don't HAVE to use it) 2. Drop Troops (free again and the objective grabbing thing) 3. Iron Discipline (awesome for keeping the troops in line) 4. Sharpshooters (you're supporting so this is valuable) 5. Chamelioline (if you're hugging the cover it can really make the difference) 3. If you're going to take Iron Discipline you must actually pay for it for each officer. So that needs to be added. 4. Drop the plasma pistol, surveyor, carapace, medic, and GL from the HQ command squad. They suck in combat and all that won't help. Either give them a mortar and have them sit back and provide morale or give them 3 PG's and take back the Medic and let them charge at the enemies. ;D ;D 5.In fact, drop all the surveyors, they aren't really worth the points (just my opinion of course) 6. I agree with Rolling Thunder about the Power Swords. Just too cheap to pass up. 7. The lascannon on the russ is not my thing but whatever floats ur boat. 8. Either A. replace some specials with heavies or B. drop two squads and add a support squad to the cmnd. sqd. 9. Im ranting, ;)just tell us what kind of list you want to play and we can give advice from there

Thanks a lot guys. I'm trying to build a (cheap) suppourt fire list that is slightly more mobile ( I guess that is a little bit of an oxymoron.) I definately think I will be droping the medic and some of the stuff from my Senior officer. Also I think I will take shapshooters over Light Infantry, my friend crunched the numbers and guard shooting now hits 57% of the time ( 9% less effiecient than a Smurf so that's something right there.)
We are going to play tonight and I'm going to try out putting in a spec weapon squad, just to see what happens. Maybe some snipers....

I had another cunning idea. take the sponson bolters off the LRBT. Use the LRBT in antitank (lascannon in the hull) or anti-infantry (3 heavy bolters) configurations, it can doboth but its not really worthit in the long run...

So I dropped the commissar and ran four ratlings instead, and gave my junior officers power weapons. And put in sharpshooters instead of light infantry. Other then that I kept my list pretty much the same. As for the game, I want to say I HATE deep striking monoliths . We played on a pretty huge board (for us), around 68' X67' and the terrain looked like it was set up by a deranged monkey, lots of things that block line of sight but hardly any cover to speak of. Our opponents were playing Tau and Necrons and my team was Imperial Guard and Eldar For the first two turns my teammate and I had it pretty much well in hand, I though we could just victory march all the way to the other board side and claim everything. Unfortunately the monoith deep struch right into our lines and teleported some necrons and I lost half of one of my platoons in a turn. Either way I shot the necrons to pieces (Flashlights FTW) and we still managed to win the game by having more table quarters. All in all I think my army performed fairly well, along with my opponents lists too (hope to win that club prize.) I definately think I will hang onto the sharpshooters, nothing better than watching your opponent's face as you turn a one into a four or six, also hitting more. Not having the extra heavy weapons didn't really hurt me too badly, special weapons held the line faily well. So I dunno, yet again we cameout on top. Any further suggestions or need some clarifications?
