um, i don't think you can have to alternate organizations, if you have grenadiers, no point in storm troopers, seeing as you have mechanized they can't DS or infiltrate anyway,

I'm not sure that's true, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't read anywhere that you couldn't take mechanized and grenadiers. Also, the mechanized rule applies only to Guard Infantry. Under the definition of Guard Infantry on the previous page, stormtroopers are exempt, as well as ratlings, ogryns, and just to be fair, conscripts.

hmm, sounds kinda sketchy, but, hmm, I'm not sure, I think that Kasrkins count as infantry, so, hmm, ask someone else, i started last month, so I'm not all that sure

Rules wise.. it works.. you can have grenadiers and storm troopers alongside the mechanized doctrine.. no problems there.. quite nice as well actually.. Play wise.. you dont have enough punch in the army.. melta guns are good but need to get within range.. chimeras are cool but they will begin to get in your way.. and the first one will block the other ones.. from fire and from being able to pass once blown up.. If you are going to deep strike the storm troopers I suggest plasma.. more fun And if you can swing it.. go for veterens instead.. they can shoot better.. can infiltrate and with drop troops can also deep strike.. just they dont get the 4+ armor save thats all but whatever.. Also the mortors wont help too much in this army I would think.. if it were heavy mortors ( FW models ) then ok.. cause they can take out basilisks and other vehicles with indirect fire.. but to clear out infantry? Not worth it in my opinion.. your chimeras will have a better chance at doing that.. get a pack of ratling snipers.. they will pin more often than mortors will.. Would be an interesting list to play with though.. but I cant see it having too much staying power for you to hang onto for too long.. Maybe if you can get a few hell hounds into the mix or sentinals to deep strike then you might see this list do very well.. Cheers Gris

Gris: I was thinking about dropping one of the deep strike teams, and the mortar team w/ attached Chimera. Then picking up several Sents. w/ lascannons. and possibly a hellhound. Think that would punch up the firepower enough?

As we where taking before, Sentinals pack a great punch.

I figured up the points during General Biology today (figured I would do something useful) and this is what I got. Drop the second deep strike squad. Drop the mortar squad and chimera. Swap out all of the meltaguns/nade launchers in the command squads and put in 4 flamers each Pick up a hellhound Pick up three Sents w/ lascannons I would also have to drop 1 meltagun out of each of the two full strength Grenadier squads This comes out to 2pts shy of 2000

New thought! What if I also just dropped the grenadier doctrine. Maxed out my elite option with Stormtroopers. 3 full squads. Deep strike them all and ditch the Chimeras. That way I could add some commissars w/power fists and another hellhound. My most common opposition will be tau and being able to drop in that many stormies should be able to by my tanks some time.

Keep drop units, and grenaiders.. just dump the normals I dont use them myself anymore.. pack them full of special weapons.. keep the chimeras.. but work on 2 or 3 units in troops with chimeras, then load in the drop units, hellhounds, and sentinals.. but I usually pack my sentinals with multilasers or autocannons and go rear armor hunting on everything, or just transport hunting.. remember.. you can deep strike them with the doctrine drop troops.. Just my thoughs.. this army style works wonders for me.. pack lots of plasma if you are facing marines.. you would be surprised how effective they are againest them..

hmmm...can i suggest u replace those meltas on the storm troopers with plasma guns? A pack of sentinels as well as 2 LR and a basilisk is a match made in heaven against any enemy armour on the field. Then again you're up against tau mainly so i guess against crisis suits they'l do find....ok lol nevermind nice list!
