Hi, I'm fairly new to building up an army points list, and I'm just wondering if any of you guys could help me out and see if this army list looks good for a 500 point army?
1 Command Squad = “195” Heroic senior officer, 70 Carapace armour +5, Power weapon +5, Master-crafted weapon +15, Retractor Field +15, (Medallion Crimson +15)
4 Guardsmen 2 Guardsmen – Autocannon +15 1 Guardsmen - Master vox +25 1 Veteran – Regimental banner +25, Carapace armour +5
Squad One = “141” Kasrkin Veteran Sergeant (10 +6) – carapace armour +5, power weapon +5 1 Kasrkin (10) – melta gun +10 1 Kasrkin (10) – flamer +6 1 Kasrkin (10) – vox-operator +5 6 Kasrkin (60) (---Kasrkin Veteran Sergeant has meltabombs at +4----)
Squad Two = “112” Sergeant 1 Guardsmen – plasma gun +10 1 Guardsmen – vox-operator +5 6 Guardsmen Master Sniper Larkin (37)
Squad Three = “71” Sergeant 1 Guardsmen – vox-operator +5 1 Guardsmen – flamer +6 7 Guardsmen
KEY Numbers represent points, obviously. Numbers at the top by the squad category represent the total points cost for that squad. Either "Larkin", or "melta-bombs" and "Medallion Crimson".
It'd be much appreciated if anyone could give me any tips or help with finalizing the list, pointing out any changes that could be useful or anything to replace?
I'll predominantly be playing against a couple of mates who are Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, so I tried to create this list with this in mind.
Thanks for any guidance that anyone can bring

OK, first off I would drop the HSO.For the points in a 500 game hes just not worth 1/5-6 of your army. drop the kasirkin, add more and more basic troops. With 500 points I take a JSO 3 squads and I basiliks or 5 squads and no amror. 4squads and achimera. Balance is the key in small point games and with this youll have more troops then he can kill. Any idea what your fightin?

oh ok. cool cool. are numbers better than quality troops in smaller games? ermm space marines, and chaos space marines. the one with space marines (Dark Angels) has an Interrogator chaplain, 2 tactical squads, and a whirlwind with improved armour/storm bolter. not sure about the chaos space marine one though.
thanks for any input.
P.S. Is a Sanctioned Pysker useful at all in 500 point games vs the space marines? Also, whats better in the way of special weapons for some guardsmen to carry? plasma guns or grenade launchers?
cheers

Okay first of all this is not a legal list. You MUST take 1 HQ and 2 Troops. This leaves you with 2 options to start with:
1 junior officer command squad 2 infantry platoons wich is 360 without any upgrades
or
1 junior officer command squad 1 infantry platoon 1 armoured fist squad wich is 335 without any upgrades
Looking at your list I see you've used voxes wich is quite expensive. I personally prefer adding a standard bearer to my HQ and keep my infantry squads near my HQ wich is quite easy in such a small game. Note that only a single model of a squad has to be within 12" of the model carrying the banner. Now that we're done with morale let's move on to the other equipment on your officer.
Looking at your list I see that you've spend a lot of points on equipment for your officer. There are three things you have to keep in mind: except for the number of wounds a normal space marine will always have a better statline than you do and the squad your officer is in has only 5 models with four 5+ saves and one 4+ save wich means it usually won't survive a single turn of bolter fire from a single marine squad and last but not least, because your enemy sees your officer as a larger threat the officer will die earlier and when your officer dies your morale bonus is gone. So my advice is, give his squad a standard bearer and nothing else and keep in behind your other troops to keep the morale bonus you need so much during the entire game.
After this you should still have like 100 points left wich I would use to upgrade the weapons of your infantry squads. Because you're fighting power armour some AP would be nice so I would stick with plasma guns as special weapons. The overheat sucks but after you've hit a space marine he will die on a 2+ to wound with no save allowed. The heavy weapon choices depend on what you're opponent is bringing. Add some Lascannons or Missile Launchers if you expect heavy armour, add Autocannons if you expect light armour or add heavy bolters to give his infantry a lot of saves.
I hope this helped

Hi. thanks for the advice. I don't get how you worked out that a junior officer squad and 2 infantry platoons are 360... a junior officer is 40 + an infantry platoon is 60 so it'll be 40+60+60= 140 not 360.. could you clarify this please?
my space marine enemy is bringing a whirlwind tank to the battle but instead of fielding a lascannon to take it out, i'm fielding melta-gun kasrkin with deep-strike, because there is a chance the whirlwind will be hidden out of line of sight behind some terrain. so i thought of fielding an auto-cannon to take out his tactical infantry with ease.
I am only fielding a vox operator with my command squad and my kasrkin since they are going to be a long way away, but i am not seeing the need for a master-vox though.
by the way, do you think that my command squad is like just too pimped up? do you think i should just remove the upgrades, jus keepin the banner bearer?

IMPERIAL GUARDSMEN ARMY LIST = “492”

Squad One = “99” 1 Veteran Sergeant (+6) – Carapace armour +5, power weapon +5 1 Guardsmen – Plasma gun +10 2 Guardsmen – Auto-cannon +15 6 Guardsmen

well... a platoon consists of 1 command squad and at least 2 infantry squads.
this means you will need:
3 command squads 4 infantry squads if you go for 2 platoons
or: 2 command squads 3 infantry squads 1 chimera if you go for a platoon and an armoured fist

oh.... nuts. i didn't know that. oh wait, if i go for the first option then i'd need 2 command squads not 3? cuz it's 1 command squad per two infantry squads, so 2 command and 4 infantry. and that'll total up to 200points unupgraded.
a bit of a pain in the arse seein how it'll be difficult to field a heavy weapons squad and kasrkin/Whirlwind-killer.
do you think that i should have upgraded command squad or jus have a banner bearer?
thanks for the input though, anyone have any more ideas? mucho appreciated dudes!!
