This is a 1,000 point army list I have created to stop my brother's Tau army. Don't yell at me if there are any conflicts in the list. I looked for all the mistakes I could and I think I got them all but just tell me nicely if I missed something. The force will be fighting my brother's Tau army which has a fair amount of troops that have been upgraded pretty well. I only have $180 to spend on this list (and I only have 20 Cadian Shock Troopers) so please tell me what to change but dont make it over $180. Anyways here it is: 1,000 Point Army ListCommand Squad- 171 PointsHeroic Senior Officer Trademark Item Bionics Carapace Armour Surveyor Master-Crafted Weapon Krak Grenade Frag Grenade4 GuardsmenVeterans Frag Grenades Krak Grenades 1 Autocannon Standard Bearer MedicSanctioned Psykers- 174 Points3 Sanctioned Psykers 3 Force Weapons 3 Plasma Pistols Carapace Armour BionicsInfantry Platoon- 140Veteran Sergeant- 6 1 Grenade Launcher- 8 1 Flamer- 6 Frag Grenades- 20 Krak Grenades- 40Infantry Platoon- 140Veteran Sergeant- 6 1 Grenade Launcher- 8 1 Flamer- 6 Frag Grenades- 20 Krak Grenades- 40Basilisk- 125Indirect FireBasilisk- 125Indirect FireBasilisk- 125Indirect FireTotal Price: $172 Total Points: 1000 PointsP.S And as a bonus I thought I would show you how it would look:

Do your infantry platoons contain command squads? If not that would be a legal problem. Also, I'm not sure about taking the autocannon in your command squad. Your command group seems to be made for assaulting. You'd be better off putting it in a regular squad. Also, giving a sanctioned psyker a force weapon in my opinion is like expecting a guardsman with a bolt pistol to down a Chaos Demon by himself. With their poor stats its just not worth the points. Now, if you just take one and put him in your command squad and give him the imperialis honorifica you can make one hell of a warrior out of him and his force weapon. You really get some bang for your buck. I'd drop the other two though and maybe pick up some heavy weapons in your regular squads. Also, if you're going to give your officer a Master Crafted Weapon I'd make it worth while and give him a power weapon as well. Just a few ideas to kick around. Good choice on the basilisks. They should be able to hide away and do some serious damage while staying out of trouble. One good hit with them and they'll more than make back their value. Sounds like a solid force. And don't take what I said to be the end all to be all. I haven't played much. Most of what I know is just from what I've read, but I feel like I've told you what most people tend to believe. Good luck and I hope you thrash those commies!

um, don't post point costs, also, a guardsman squad can only have one weapon upgrade. so it's either a 'nade launcher or a flamer,

Legality aside there are a few things that are costing u points and money, that could be spent better elsewhere. I think that list would have serious problems. 1st 3 lisks in a 1000 point army, with indirect fire. How big a table are you playing on? ?? For 1k games I'd expect a 4' by 4', or 4'by 6'max, not leaving u much room for indirect fire, and with no other heavy weapons to take out armour. Artillery is great, I lvoe it, but if you haven't tried using it before, I would suggest trying 1 first, and find the strengths and weaknesses before going for 3. 2nd you really have maxed out on nades which is costing u a lot of points with little benefit. If this is a way to stretch out your cash per points, then doctrines would prob work better. 3rd your command squad. Some nice models, but if you have a tight budget, you'd be better off buying your self officers, and using regular guardsmen to fill out the squads. I don't usually work in $ but will have a quick look online for prices, and post an alternative list you might like.

Well Tau excel at small pointed matches. My advice is to take two 25 man platoons loaded with heavy weapons, a basilisk, leman russ and a small CC command squad. Its a bit hard with your price limit but try looking at ebay or buying models second hand.

U know what is great to build a 1000 points list? 2 Cadian Battle Forces(cost 96 euros each, dont know how many dollars)!u will lack the good special weapons(do not bother with grenade launchers 'n stuff, just use melta/plasma) but in such a small game (1k) u will mainly need the "basic" heavy weapons anyway. with your 20 guys, u will have a total 60 guys, enough to build 4 infantry squads and 3 command squads(1x hq, the other 2 for the 2 troops plattoons, consisting of 2 infantry squads each).that's 55 men needed, which u will have. U will also have 2 heavy weapon squads for your HQ, and 2 of the best tanks in the game. For 192 euros. If it is too many dollars(i think so) then get 1 battleforce, one 20xcadian shock troops box, and 1x heavy weapons squad box.same as before, but one less tank and 168 euros(should be in your dollar limit) and they will help u with any list u have in mind as they are excellent boxes so u can build most units u have in mind, even veterans with alittle conversion!. again, do not use special weapons until u get special weapons blisters(dont get blisters now due to money). Don't worry, your list will be fine. When u decide to expand your list then fill your squads with the ALLOWED ammount of plasma/melta, gotten by the special weapons blisters, and perhaps flamers(u can have those from now, in the cadian boxes) but NOT grenade launchers. And reread the codex. each plattoon(even the troops) must have a command squad(u can build those with the boxes i told u, just u didnt have them in your previous list).

Some excellent advice there. i totally disagree with the special weapons comments, but each to his own Ebay is a great place to look for cheaperr alternatives tho, especially special wepon squads. I'd be v tempted to take a Hellhound against Tau, massive killing capacity on 4+ armour saves

some probs with your force- you can only have one advisor of a given type per squad you need command squads for your platoons you can only have one special weapons per inf platoon squad
some suggestions- you might want some russes you could do with some commissars to shoot anyone who tries to reatreet if you want you could apply some docs to your force
