Here is my painting scheme for Cadians. As I'm complete noob in tabletop wargaming I'm painting my little soldiers according to "Getting started" section at Games Workshop website. As a result my army will be rather conventional so please don't beat me with lasgun butts for wasting your time and give me some advice how to improve my painting EDIT. Added second photo. This time the squad is complete, sergeant, 8 guardsmen and a special weapon (flamethrower).

improve, i think thats some of the best i've seen, especialy for your first time. I have seen some bad models, painted by experienced people, and that is at least 10x better than theres.
My only suggestion is to maybe get creative and make your army unique, not the GW scheme, all though it is a really nice scheme.

their better than mine...much better.
I used a similar scheme to the basic one cos i just followed the instructions, although i didn't have the right colours so its a dark brown with dark green armor.

Nice, I like the GW scheme, pretty good for a first model!

I like it alot. here are some tips for you to try out: 1. I'd use a strong highlight of 'elf flesh' to make the skin-tone more realistic and less pink. it'll also add more depth to the skin too. 2. when I do the face, the first thing I paint is the white of the eyes. don't worry about painting within the lines, the whites of the eyes can be painted very sloppily. next add the pupils - a dot for each pupil; make them rather large - when you look at a realistic eye, the pupil easily takes up 50%, maybe more; the whites taking up the rest of the space. next put on dwarf flesh. do this layer like you're basecoating the face. use it to add the eyelids to the eyeballs and all that extra sloppy white from painting on the whites of the eyes is suddenly covered by dwarf flesh. now take elf flesh and pick out the highlights of the face - the forehead, cheekbones, and bridge of the nose mainly. lastly add hair paint colors and you're done! very nice looking faces this way your models ARE very nice looking for first shots at painting! keep up the great work and welcome

It's not my first model but one from my first box of Cadians I have painted a few and I'm most proud of that one. I paint 'em one at a time and try to get better after each one finished. I admit painting faces is hard for me, in fact this one is the first to have eyes I'll try to paint sergeant next. He is big faced and maybe it'll be easier to work with his skin tone. Unfortunately I don't have Elf Flesh nor Dwarf Flesh. All I got is Dark Fleshtone and Tanned Flesh. I'll try to do as you said Turtleboy but using these colours, mixing them if need be. I hope it will come up as good looking, black sergeant leading boys to battle As to the colour scheme I'll stick to this one for a while. It's quite easy and I haven't got much paints as I'm a beginner. Maybe I'll apply some Commando Khaki to officers uniforms to make them stand out from the crowd. Thanks for replies, I really appreciate your help

Welcome Royal Have to say, they look really good. Nice and clean lines. I was going to suggest not painting the eyes. For me they are always a hassle, take a long time to do, and generally don't add enough when on the table to be worth the effort and heart ache (I have always had issues with painting yes). However, after reading Tboys how to paint eyes above, I'm going to try that instead. .

I finished painting my first squad of Cadians I replaced former pics of individual models by the whole bunch of guardsmen. It only lacks special weapon but I hope I'll get something soon.

Very nice suff mate! Good painting skills! And welcome on board! As for special weapons, I can advise you to take flamers or grenade launchers in regular squads, plasma guns and melta guns in command squads, special weapons squads, veteran and strom troopers squads to benefit from number and or better BS.

I like it.. also if you are missing brighter colors just mix some white into the base color.. and do many small layers with it.. and only add a little bit ofwhite at a time.. too much and well it will look like Micheal Jackson in winter.. too little and they might be able to pull off a Jackson 5 reunion tour without makeup great paint jobs though mate.. very nice even if in the stadard GW scheme cheers Gris

majorjav : I will take the flamethrower After painting those few guys I realized that I'm not that much pleased with the paint scheme as I was at first glance. Armour colour (Dark Angels Green) is to dark on black undercoat and the contrast between base colour of the fatigues and the highlight seems to big. I wonder how to improve it a bit without ruining the look of the whole army. I thought I'd try giving Graveyard Earth as base colour on fatigues (it's highlight now) and highlight it with Kommando Khaki. Do you think it will look decent ? Is it possible in wh40k to have two squads painted differently in the same army ? My head is full of justifications fluffwise but I thought I'd ask to be sure.

absolutly, i see no reason why not? after all, if so long as your not fielding illegal combinations, or different races, it makes no difference game wise (or didnt 5 years ago when i last gamed!) and if you can justify it with fluff, then so much the better! i say go for it, and see what interesting fluff you can think up!

Wuts next fer ure guardsmen? i mean...the next best thing about a model is also the basing. Basing gives ure models some character and shows where ure troops are fighting. HAve u decided what to do, ie. Grassland/Urban/wasteland? Looks really sweet ure painting
