Going for a Forest World sort of look (Great Pine, Elm, etc.) Camo colors are sort of the reverse of Cadians, though with a MUCH darker brown.

man, I REALLY like it! absolutely lovin' the blood on the bayonet too do I see weathering on the lasgun?? if so that's a really nice touch too. I like the dirt on the lower pant legs and the overall color selection - looks like some nice drybrushing on the winged skulls too - a very sweet model sir /salute.

Thanks, d00d. I'm really proud of it, since it's my first model. I don't count the Beakies from Macragge.

Thanks, comrade. I filed off the little Imperial emblems on their chest armor. Except for one. I guess even the Convicts need a leader.

I really like the colour scheme. My only advice is to mabye try flesh wash on the skin and to give the conscripts diferent markings from the regular shocktroops.

Flesh wash? 6_9
Also, I'm not too keen on markings. I might, if I can make a wolf marking that's easy to do on such a small scale.
The Convicts will have a Skull or Skull and Crossbones >D
BTW, since the GW Waterslide Transfers suck so badly, can anyone shoot me in the direction of transfers that suck less?

transfers are tricky - doing custom ones is really where it's at but it requires some work. you can typically get blank transfer paper at local hobby supply shops and it goes right in your printer. just get into photoshop or even paint and make your decal, size it right, duplicate it to make for no wasted transfer paper when you print it and roll one off your printer. you'll have to hand cut-out each decal, but it's FAR superior to hand painting every icon (which lets face it, is just way too much work to ever do ). as far as skulls on the shoulders go - that's an easy answer, there are skulls on the GW transfer. they may not be your favorite to use but they're there and they're essentially free (come with the kits you have bought). that's what I'd go with. the crossbones could easily be done with white paint and a little skill painting an X with a lil' blob at each end of the 4 ends of the X. just put the skull transfer in the middle. there's also a product you can buy that'll seal down your transfers - I believe it bonds them to the mini by partially melting the transfer itself - it basically removes wrinkles to a digree and seals them down to the mini (though you should also finish the model with a sealant to further protect the mini and transfer from chipping/tearing. I'll see if I can get a name for you about that transfer sealant stuff.

I just use a brown ink wash on my dudes. turns out nice if you use about 2 parts water to every part brown ink. it adds alot of detail to the face as it brings out all the features by adding in a good looking cheateriffic lowlighting. try it on a model or two, you might find you really like the look (see my army for examples of experimentation with washes (B. Co., Cadian 551st)).

I tried a brown ink wash. Turned out WAY too red!

let it dry, you may like the result. if it turned out way too red (which was what I thought of the flesh wash) then I'd put just a hint of black ink in the wash mix and it'll significantly darken the result for ya.
you're the man for taking a shot at ink washing! that's how pro painters are born man! gotta take the leap and experiment and learn how to do those advanced techniques sometime or you'll stay at your current level forever. props on taking a shot at workin' with the ink, it's a rewarding thing to master
*edit*
just remember when you add a dab of black to the ink mix, you'll want to add a bit more water too since you're upping the ratio of ink to water by a bit - this'll keep the ink nice and thin, which is desirable in my humble opinion.

Ack. First time I inked, I just did straight ink. 6_9. I'll take a picture of my painting "Shinies" and post them here, so you can see the result. They look like wild Injuns! (Yes, yes, I'm in an insensitive bastard.)

eek - yeah you definately don't want straight ink - that's really dark! I like 2 parts water to 1 part ink personally. gives a great look.

nice to see the pics - I really like your green and brown (hard to tell with the lighting in the pics if it's brown) color scheme. with flesh, I do a base of dwarf flesh and a highlight of elf flesh. that's all it takes really maybe a light brown ink wash if you're into that kinda thing.

Boy, been a while since my last post. I found I was gonna be a dude short in my first squad, so I bogarted the Medic model from my Command platoon, since A. He'd be replaced by a lascannon team, and B. I think Medics as a choice are a waste. He's there to be pretty and add some spice to the squad, since most modern and sci-fi squads have a medic-type person. Also, here's a drawing of how I want my officers to look. Any ideas on where to get the banner posts would be appreciated, 'cause I'm stumped. The pelt (where the banner is supposed to be) is just gonna be green stuff, and my Orky friend has a tonne of skulls to donate. I'm gonna use some Termie lightning claws for the power claws/fists/things The fluff would be that the skulls are fallen brothers that have 'come back' as these Wolf Wraiths mounted atop the officer who replaced them. In the dense, dark woods, the officers use the ghostly image of the skull and pelt to full effect, howling like a banshee as they charge into combat. Also, trademark item
