Hi Guys I'm currently working on my very first guardsman. Its not quite finished at the moment but I'd like some c&c to see if i'm on the right lines. Im not sure that the camo is quite right but I'm not sure what to change Thanks

Good stuff. You're definately on the right track. The base is a bit bare, though, you might want to look at that a little.

Looks fantastic man, great camo, strong highlights. Obviously it's unbased, nice sandy desert is called for methinks :]

Nice mini mate! You should work a bit the base (I know, it is always quite boring...) A whole army would be awesome!

Hi Thanks for the nice words. The base did indeed need a lot of work, I never realised how much difference a base can make to a model but it sure seems to tie everything in together with this guy Hope you like

Great model, the camo scheme works really well. The base looks a lot better as well now. You could also try to put some of GWs stattic grass on the base to give it that extra detail. They`ve recently released a scorched grass shade that works well with desert bases.

Hi
I already have the scorched grass. I got it for my Tomb Kings army but unfortunately its a bit green and doesnt really look like desert covering very much. I'll keep my eyes open though next time im passing alocal model railway shop

I think it looks very good, I don't think it needs anything else. Good work erik, keep it up.

Yeah, great work! I like it a lot, particularily the black and white spot are well done, not too many and just the right size.
Keep'em coming..
Cheers

Hi Guys
Sorry no picture today. I've finally finished the test mini and although I'm quite happy with it there are a few things bugging me. The first is the face. I dont really like how that turned out, mainly because the gun was in the way and I couldnt paint t properly. This also leads to the second problem, you can see that the chest plate is also not painted properly as I couldnt get the brush in to do it.
So I' thinking that maybe I should do a mini without the arms attached and then once the boda, head and legs are done spray the arms and then attach them. Has anyone tried this and what do you think of this idea
Thanks again for the lovely comments
Erik

I seem to fare ok with my guardsmen just fully assembling then taking the brush to them and get a good result, but then again, I have some really small brushes!

Try it. Nothing wrong with experimenting and the end result is the same: a fully assembled and painted model.
I've tried this idea and it works pretty well, although half the time i paint, i cant even see the parts i've missed. The hardest part is keeping the lasgun and arm steady in your hands. If you have a clamp or something to hold it while you work, use that. It'll help out a lot.

The camo scheme along with the brown shoulderpads/gun work very well together. Hope you won't get tired painting it on your 20-220 guardsmen It would be nice to see a whole squad assembled and painted standing together as colour schemes tend to look greater than. About the painting without having lasgun arm glued to the body, I have acctually never heard of anyone (at least in my IG circles) doing that. Maybe you just need a smaller brush?

Looks great. A very realistic looking scheme. My opinion is if you can't see it to paint it, it doesn't need much painting. I suppose that may just me being lazy though. I could understand painting it piecemeal on your command squads and special characters. Great job though. Keep up the good work!

Looks good, Did you use the GW paints? I bought some (about 50) I spent about $300, cause a lot of them were matalics.

YOU FOOL! You're doing it wrong!
Seriously. You can get craft paints from Wal-Mart that cost 96 cents a bottle that contains almost TWICE the paint of GW bottles.
Downside is that certain craft paints don't coat well on smooth surfaces, so if you're a tread-head, you might be stuck doing eight coats (my tank) or so before your tank looks good.
