Well, I took my army out for its first engagement and they made me proud. They went 2-1 vs. the Space Wolves. Up until then my brother had never lost one on one with them. The first game went well, but I didn't get any pictures, I was too excited to be using my army. The second game the Long Fangs popped my Russ first round and it went down hill from their, but I will give it to my men, they fought well and hard against the wolves, fighting to the last. "Not one step back!" The third game I decimated the wolves without losing one man. A true victory! Now, enough with the blabbering on with the pics! With the Leman Russ destroyed we form up to meet the Wolves head on. There will be no retreat. We move out to intercept the Wolves. Unfortunately my flame throwers were out of position and cut down. Assault the Bloodclaws. Deny them their charge! For the Emperor! Here comes a reserve squad. Will it be enough to turn the tide? With years of experience the Gray Hunters saw the advance and mowed them down to the last. With all of his comrades slain, my officer, filled with rage seeks out the Wolves Rune Priest and challenges him to single combat. The Wolves, holding to their honor oblige him. What harm could a mere man pose? After inflicting heavy damage to the rune priest, the wolves show their true honor. May my valiant men be long remembered. This is from the third battle. First round my Leman Russ popped around a corner and scored a direct hit on the Long Fangs. Second Round a direct hit on the bloodclaws. Seeing a quick approaching end the Wolves commander wisely withdrew to fight another day. A triumphant day for the Guard. Not one man was lost. Just some pics for fun. Sir, I think we could use some spears. "Spears as long as a man!" Wishful thinking....

Yeah the space wolves had a rough day, so I thought I'd let my brother have a little bit o' fun with em. We actually played out the bikes vs. guard one. 9 blood claws and wolf lord vs. my guard infantry on the charge (no pre shooting). It was quite the butchering. I dropped about half of em though...

kinda mad that you decided to go and hurt my favorite boys. but the guard and wolves are often the best of friends.
if a marine can get drunk off of the space wolf ale imagine what would happen to a guardsmen

haha best of friends! Very True. My brother and I played an allied match the other day and destroyed our opponents. Actually, he was kinda dissapointed... My tanks did so well his wolves didn't get much of a chance to kill anything... Did bring down a Fix in CC...

If anybody would like to read and critique a full battle report let me know and I'll write one up. I felt like I did all I could in this battle but it still came up as a draw...

Write it up and I will take a look at it.. also what did you have in your force for gear and such? Also I am seeing heavy weapons not on hills and not behind cover... bad.. very bad mate.. easy victory points for opponents..
Looking good though.. keep it up and you will get a couple more wins under your belt..
Cheers

Well, I can't really say that the terrain was favorable to you. with a river running through the whole table. Perfect for tau with only skimmers and range weapons and lots of jetpacks. you couldv'e flanked him with the chimera. remember they treat water as clear terrain. getting into close combat fast is important while fighting tau. probobly the main thing about them is that massing firepower against them isn't as effective as when fighting other races. try hardned veterans and decoys/meat wall like conscripts next time. might work.

Take and Hold: Win conditions were to have the most scoring units within 8" of the center of the bridge.
Tau Player (Evan) got first turn. He popped my Russ on the left flank and destroyed the Demolisher's cannon as well as leaving the crew stunned. He also butchered the forward squad on the left flank and inflicted sporadic casualties throughout the army. He also brought up his transport and hammerhead on my left flank.
On my first turn I advanced the Chimera and my troops up the center towards the bridge, Keeping the squads as covered by the chimera as possible. I also advanced the squad just left of center into the rubble walls for cover. On the right flank I moved the squad in front of the demolisher into the tree cover. On my far right flank I moved my Stormtroopers into tree cover. After firing all shots possible I killed ONE stealth suit on Evan's left flank. I was NOT happy with my soldier's performance.... I little more time on the drill range maybe...
Turn 2 Evan unloaded his Firewarriors on my left flank and began to shoot the hell out of me. He was not able to do any more damage to my tanks, though my infantry sustained heavy losses this turn.
I moved the chimera further along the bridge and reduced a firewarrior squad to less that half strength with its fire power. I now had the Chimera positioned to where it was blocking line of sight and movement for any of his footsloggers to get on teh bridge. With the sides of the bridge now the only way to target my soldier they recieved their cover saves. (didn't end up helping much...). My Leman Russ was able to knock out the trasport and several fire warriors on my left flank and the stormtroopers got another stealth suit kill.
Turn 3 Evan's forces remain mostly stationary and blast the crap out of my some more. At this point I only have one or two remaining scoring units. The squad in the trees did sop up a LOT of fire before they went down.
I move my demolisher around the right of the clump of trees and eliminate an entire stealth squad with my hull mounted and sponson weapons. My HQ squad also brings down the hammerhead with the lascannon (actually that may have happended turn four...).
Turn 4 Evan moves his remaining squads towards the bridge and shoots at me some more and kills the Chimera and leaves the squad inside entangled. He also imobilizes my Leman Russ.
I am able to kill a few fire warriors left of the bridge with my Russ. My Guard on the bridge wipe out enough out the shield drones and one crisis suit, bringing them under 50%. I move my stormtroopers towards the bridge, they still being above 50%. My Demolisher kills something... I think it helped with killing the crisis suits. One of my squads was killed down to just the grenade launcher, he passed his moral check (and continued to do so for the rest of the game) and he advanced across the Tau's line of fire towards the remaining fire warriors on my left flank.
Turn five. Evan kills most of my soldiers on the bridge, and kills my stormtroopers.
My HQ doesn't manage to kill anything. My Leman Russ brings his squad of fire warriors by the bridge to under 50%. My demolisher kills a stealth suit. And here is the play of the game! My single guardsman passes his last man standing check (again) and assaults the 6 fire warriors on the left flank who are in cover. They inflict two wounds and he saves against both. He then drops on in hand to hand. They fail their moral check, and he guns them down as the run away.
Turn 6 None of Evans troops can see my demolisher and whatever targets my lone guardsman misses. Evan has only his one vehicle next to the bridge as a scoring unit.
I roll my demolisher up to the bridge for the unclimactic tie.

big problem i easly saw right off the bat was that you had 2 lemans right next to each other and extremly close to your infantry. not only did you limit the shooting ability of your lemans your vehicles posed a threat to your own forces if they blow up!
that and you should have placed one of those tanks in that tank bunker and get glancing shots? maybe even a cover save?

I would have to agree.. you also had a huge hill on your side.. I would have placed one of the lemans there.. and the other behind the trees.. along with the chimera on the far right flank to go down and cut left into his back ranks.. keep your big guns on hills so that they can see as much as possible.. I saw your lascannon sitting in the middle of the field moving towards the bridge.. if you have heavy weapons, place them where they will not move much, or at all if possible... Your opponent was smart in that he held back till closer to the end and moved in that way.. by doing so, it makes you move forward, making it so that you cannot use your heavy weapons as much on his tanks and such.. this was what caused your downfall.. I would have kept the chimera running down the back end.. hitting him from behind.. maybe make a unit of yours to be drop troops instead and call them in behind enemy lines as well.. this is a bane to Tau players as they need range to win.. they are not good in close combat, not as one would expect.. a serg with power weapon can do wonders to a crisis suit unit Take everything as a learning lesson, but biggest points.. keep your tanks out of open field for deployment.. keep heavy weapons stationary and with a good field of fire on the board, use your vehicles to their advantage, chimeras treat water as open terrain.. use that to make a nice work around his army surprising him and making him focus on it faster.. make him come to you.. but ensure that you are within walking distance to the opjective when needed ( that one unit with no heavies would be choice for this ).. good luck on future games mate..
