I got involved with a GW store sanctioned event today. A Bane Blade build off. Fastest time wins any of the Direct order Apocalypse battle forces. Originally it was just the $350 dollar IG package, but they opened it up to any of them now.
My official time for the build was 1 hr, 6 min, 42 sec from a new box nothing done to the sprue's. I think the best compliment I received was "clean build".
How has everyone else done?

I wasn't in the contest but my baneblade took about Two hours to build. That includes Sprues, Molds, and anything else.

i think i could get it under 1 hour but ill have to wait tell christmas.
thats a pretty gutsy move for your store. they could essentially lose over 500 dollars if someone pics the space marine company. then again im sure there making enough money off of the baneblades they are selling.

The prize is from the direct order only so they can be out $350.00 not the $500+.
My time was beat so I am going to be going back to try again. New time to beat is just over 55 minutes. I am pretty sure I can do it. I'll take a pic of it once it is finished to show off.

Ok, Went back and did the Baneblade build again. The Previous score of 55 minutes was whittled down to 53 minutes. So being the confidant SOB I am I sat down knowing that the time to beat was 53 minutes and proceeded to build. My time was upon completion 47 minutes 2 seconds.
I was going to be a real arse about it all and do the build in the last hour the store was open so no one would have a chance to beat my score, but instead I did it while the store was full of patrons and when there was still 3 hours before the store closed just to give others a fighting chance.
During the build the guy who had done his score in 53 minutes entered the store and tried to distract me from the build. Obviously it didn't work.
So, the prize for me was the Emperor's Wrath Artillery company. 9 Bassies and a Chimera.
They will look good with my two Baneblades and the Hell Hammer.

Aren't you suppose to take your time and enjoy the building process?
When ever I build anything I pace myself so that I enjoy it, otherwise I'd finish it in an hour and rush it.
If you take a while and pace yourself, it gives you time to think of new ideas and things you could add to the model.
Although saying that, 9 bassies and a chimera does sound good!

Mabus, I am at heart a modeler. I understand the point you are making completely. I have models that I have taken more than a year to complete. However, what some folks who are in the modeling side of the hobby forget is that this was not a demonstrate your modeling skills side. It was a put your crap together side. Two very different things.
Also, as soon as I got it home, I dismantled it and have been cleaning the glue lines up so that I can reassemble this beautiful kit so that I have something to be proud of. Not just the fact that this was the tank that I built to win a competition.
Commissar, I too would have settled for them, but the prize was for the direct order only. Those you can get in the store so it wasn't on the prize list.

Its a good thing that you can model so quickly, because you`re going to need all the time you can get to paint all those tanks up! Congratulations on winning the competition.

Jeez 9 bassies, how long do you think it will take you to build those suckers? It will probably take me a few days to just get them together. Luckily, I have found that using paint in a can to be a far better way to paint these things instead of hand painting them. So the painting won't be too long either. Will probably go through a can or two just to cover them though. Edit... The prize came in. See the following pic.

Ok lads i got put my baneblade together in under 50 mins, which isnt to shaby if i do say so my self. But playing guard for around ten years and with Apocs out i decided to buy the bassie set and completed that daunting task in around 5 hours through out a week due to school and all. but yeah any task can be done as long as a guardsmans doing it.
