I finally got a game in and here is a Battle Report (have never written one so I don't know if it is any good). The best part of this match was the fact that I deployed perfectly. Even used the firing lines and concentrated fire. But the outcome wasn't as good as I expected, yet it was the best game I have played yet...due to having the confidence and actually doing everything correctly (well maybe 90% right).
Enjoy:
Turn one went to me but sadly, all my shots failed to do a damn thing (Shoddy dice rolling). I did get one Glancing hit on the TL LC armed Razorback, but only rolled a one .Besides moving the Ogryns forward, the rest off my army stayed put to shoot.
Phase 2. First off Hadwin, Leading the Squad of 11 Blood claws and backed up by a Venerable dreadnought made their way towards the Imperial Lines in intercept the ogryns Squad.
After the Rhino carrying a Unit of Grey hunters dropped them off, The Long Fangs took aim at the Leman Russ tank, 3 misses and a failed penetrating hit soon put their tails between their legs. His Whirlwind managed to score a direct hit and wiped out a entire squad of Guardsmen.
The Destructor opened fire on a Platoon HQ, but despite 6 out of 8 Wounds, I saved all but two due to cover saves. To rub salt into the wound, they passed their leadership test and held firm.
Turn 2 Didn't go well for either of us, as both our shooting phases went to the warp. However the Blood Claws made it into contact with the Ogryns and the Fight was on...Except that Hadwin, being the only model in contact, scored 3 wounds on the Ogryn killing him. With no-one else in contact, he won the combat...but I passed my leadership.
Turn three, Just got worse for my army, as dice roll after dice roll failed either to hit, penetrate or wound. I swear he cursed my dice, I have never rolled so many 1's and 2's.
The Razorback that transports his Long Fangs went and showed me how things were done. A 6 to hit, a 6 to Penetrate, soon sent the Leman Russ back for more then a tread repair. The Turret flew high in the air, The fuel ignited and armour plate flew in all directions.
The Long Fangs, Not to be out done by a single Las cannon, Fired into the building across the way, resulting in 4 kills and forcing my Imperial Guard Squad to fall back. The Destructor opened fire on a Squad with a Missile Launcher and also gained 4 kills, but I was too close to my leaders and passed my fullback test...
Combat with the Blood Claws and Ogryns Result in three wounds on the my ogryns, but one Blood Claw fell to the Bone head... And yet again...They passed their test.
Turn four was a little better for me. I Finally....read... Finally hit something. A Krak missile sped over and got a glancing hit on the whirlwind, blowing it back to the Fang..
Finally his Wolf Scouts decided it was high time to show their faces and moved into my lines. His shooting didn't make a big impact (Predator gained 3 Kills thats it) But the Scouts did very well. At point black range at my Command Squad, they opened up and Hit them with 1 Melta gun Shot, 2 Plasma Shots and 2 Bolt pistols and soon sent my command squad to their graves!! However this left the scout with no-one to charge, and with 2 Full Infantry Squads and A Platoon HQ in counter charge distance, this left them feeling very out in the open.
Combat resulted in another Ogryn killed, a Wound on another for the loss of another claw...And this timed they failed their test and were run down by one very annoyed Wolf Lord and a bunch of yipping mad dogs.
Turn five. As my lines were slowly getting over run with lots and lots off very ticked off Space Wolves (That would be 10 Grey Hunters, 9 Blood Claws, a Wolf Lord and Dreadnought) My shooting suddenly became limited indeed. I took the Gamble and went for victory points, Shooting 1 Missile at the Rhino, bringing it to a firey end, and shot at the La cannon armed Razorback but failed to dent it. Oh well...I guess they still make them the way they used too!! 3 Grey Hunters fell but they held on.
And then bad luck struck big time for me. Opting to Fire both Squads and PHQ at the Wolf scouts, But after 2 Plasma, 1 Missile, 1 GL and 40 odd lasgun shots, Only one scout fell...Yes only one!! Couldn't even make him fall back even though he was right on the board edge!! I was nearly brought to tears.
It was time for payback. The Long Fangs took out one of the Missile launchers, The Destructor reduced another squad to just its heavy Weapon, The Scouts charged a Infantry Squad, Both the Blood Claws, Grey hunters and Dreadnought moved closer and prepared themselves for a turn 6 Charge.
The Scouts lost one marine in CC, but sliced apart the Squad....But Again, due to an officer within 12" I passed my test....
Turn 6. What little shooting I could do failed and resulting in one killed Grey Hunter....
I charged in another Infantry Squad in a dim effort to put down the wolf scouts....Only to result in a draw!
Shooting just gained him a few more VP and his other Grey hunters (That finally found some one to shoot at) Killed enough of my PHQ to force it off the board. The Last assault phase of the game was nothing more then overkill. The Dreadnought and Grey hunters charged and wiped out a Infantry Squad, While Hadwin and the Blood Claws did like wise. The Scouts ended up drawing with their opps, but had dwindled them down to under half strength giving me more VP.
Now looking at the board, I looked as if I had given as good as what I got.... The sad part about it was that the only points I got for my effort was....
138pts... Yep thats right. Just the Kill for the Whirlwind and the Rhino. All his squads were still above half strength.
While a good game itself, nothing I did was wrong, It was just really shocking dice roles...And nothing more. Nothing he did was anything fantasic... Just a bad set of Dice for me and some good ones for him.
