And to think someone here had a thread stating a concern with what to do with Orks. Answer is simply really. Do what the IG always have done. Jam bodies down his throat till he chokes on them. ;D

Very good. When fighting Orks apply the basic tactic of beat 'em at their own game. Good grief, 490 guard - it must have taken you a week to make the rapid fire rolls and then another to resolve the charge attack. Over that sort of numbers we have to assume exactly 50%, so you killed 82 men on the charge and 82 in close combat. What damage would the overwhelm add ... errrr ... [brain fused]

Actually, a footslogging IG army has a distinct advantage over an ork army.
A) your opponent will take transports, in which case you will seriously outnumber him.
B) Your opponent will attempt to footslog across the board, thus giving you masses of time to shoot his army into bitesize pieces.
C) Your opponent will attempt to charge quickly, footslog AND shoot at you. In which case, you trash the transports, trash the guns and then wipe out his footsloggers. in that order.
D) Your opponent will sink so many points into 'elite' units in the hope of reaching your lines. You smile, nod, and flatten him with a half-dozen ordanance blasts. And mop up with the ol' flashlight.

I'm planning on slowly building up an all-Infantry IG army, built around stationary Fire Support squads and mobile platoons with Missile Launchers and Grenade Launchers.

I didn't think you could charge into CC after firing a rapid fire weapon?

Only against the target you rapid-fire on.

Only against the target you rapid-fire on. Re read the rules on Rapid fire weapons (pg 29 in the rule book) third paragraph.

You can fire assault weapons and then assault - it's the one advantage of the shotgun (otherwise a bit rubbish).

But you can't fire "rapid fire" weapons (las guns, bolters etc) then assault.

Errr, in a word, no. Rapid fire weapons are rapid fire weapons. Assault weapons are assault weapons. But nice idea though
