hey everyone. I have decided to get an even better computer than in my last thread, but I am unsure because there are two different computers which are basically the same.
comp 1:
AMD phenom quad 9500 cpu
ASUS M3A motherboard
2gb pc 5300 corsair DDR2 RAM
320GB Western Digital SATAII hard drive
512mb ASUS 8800GT (optional 8800 GTS TD PE for $90)
Pioneer 115D 20x Dvd-rw
19 inch viewsonic va1926w flat lcd monitor
Logitech media 600KB and optical mouse (mouse and keyboard)
creative inspire 5300 speaker
coolermaster centurion V case
all for $1367 (not including extra $90 for 8800 GTS upgrade)
australian dollars.
I decided to go with the above one for some reason...
should arrive tomorrow ;D

and it will be out dated in around 3 months anyway, it looks like the dream computer. It would be a couple of tens of £ more expensive than mine (I would guess it is around £700?) which is about the same price i paid for my newish computer (got 8800 and AMD Athelon 64 n all that).

Only change I would do is swap out the 320 gig hdd for a smaller one to be your main drive and keep the larger one for games, movies, and music.. to run your OS on such a large drive along with everything else, that will become your bottleneck on the computer.. its what happened when I tried to run my OS off a 250 gig drive along with all my programs and such.. if you set it up right and keep it organized ( keep os, and MAIN programs like office and burners on the main hdd, everything else on the secondary hdd ) then you should be able to see fast seek times and an overall smooth performance. You wont see the need for it right away, but give it a few months and it will begin to lag or slow down on you as you begin to fill up the drives..
Just my 2 cents.. nice rig otherwise, and yes quad is nice.. but not everything uses it at this time..
Cheers Gris

hmm...ok gris, seems like a reasonable theory. So you mean have a small like 20 gig one for my OS/programs etc and then have another bigger one for games/ etc?

Would say closer to 60 gigs minimum and 100 max, as it allows for some larger core programs to be installed, but not enough to keep games and what not on it still.. My current comps are set up with 80s as the main with 250s and 300s as the spares that I store everything else on.. Usually one for games, another for movies/tv shows, and music..
Also allows for the fact that if your machine crashes and you need to reformat, all your data * pics, files, games, movies, etc ) are safe still and in working condition.. while the OS drive can just be formated and you just reinstall the core pieces.. might have to reinstall the odd video game as well if its on the secondary drives but its been rare for me there even.. especially if you keep it up to date and have all the same programs and what not..
Just my 2 cents mate.. hope it helps..

that sounds like a really good and logic idea, yet I don't have a 60-100 gig hard drive floating around atm and my parents r basically paying for this, well i'll see how it goes, and then I will propably then get another Hard drive.
