We made up some special characters of our own (one per army) to lead forces in a future campaign we'll be doing shortly. Peer reviewed to ensure no one got too outrageous, and they will be pointed out by mutual votes.
I am proud to say I took the non-official award for the "most balanced" of the home-grown characters, so I present for your ammusement, Col. Jaros Sturmveldt:
Born and bred to battle in the Feross system, a backwaters area of the galaxy that has been set upon time and time again by xenos Dark Eldar, Tyranids and the Tau. Rising through the ranks through deft martial ability, and no small measure of heroic sacrifice, Col Sturmveldt rose to command the Feross system forces, and has for over eighteen years.
As a young Captain, Sturmveldt ventured into options and resources that would classify him as heretic if anyone were to find out. Through the use of an uncovered Daemonhost and a foul deal, he was to gain supreme insight into the capability, methodology, and even the xenos mindset for the particular races that had been troubling the Feross system over and over again. Success was achieved, but as always, it came at a costly price; forever is Jaros especially vulnerable to psychic attack, and he is in constant fear of discovery by Commissars, the Inquisition and/or Sanctioned Psykers.
With darkly won knowledge, the initiative was seized against the xenos Dark Eldar, Tau and Tyranid, and displaying his preternatural ability to predict where the enemy will move next, and what to do to counter that move or attack, Col Sturmveldt and his forces have been undefeated since. His reputation as a hunter of the three xenos races have reached as far as Terra, and as one would predict, into the central reaches of the masters of those races as well…
In battle, Col. Sturmveldt orchestrates forces from the rear with the aide of his Master VoxCaster Cpl John Galt, and is busy using his preternatural abilities to guide and direct units away from threats and attacks and guide them into areas where the enemy will be weak. Col Sturmveldt dons Carapace Armor, and is armed with a Powersword and Mastercrafted Storm Bolter. His personal bodyguard consists of Vet. Trooper Reardon, armed with a Bolter, Master VoxCaster Corporal Galt, and two troopers armed with Flamers.
Col Sturmveldt takes up the slot of a Heroic Senior Officer in the force org of an Imperial Guard army. Due to his weakness and suspicion of being found out, the army of Col. Sturmveldt will NEVER employ Sanctioned Psykers or Commissars and cannot take Inquisitorial, Grey Knight or Sisters of Battle allies.
Special Rules
Can You Hear me Now? In order to gain the benefits of the Special Rules, every infantry unit MUST spend the points for a Vox Caster. If the Vox Caster is taken out as a casualty, the unit loses communication with the Col, and loses any benefits from the Special Rules herein.
You Cannot Hide. Every infantry unit in the army counts as having a Surveyor.
Duck! During the start of the enemy shooting phase, Col Sturmveldt rolls a d6. He can make a leadership test to radio that number of infantry units as they are being fired upon, and predicting they will come under fire, have them hunker down just before, gaining a 5+ cover save against the incoming fire as if they were in rough terrain, or an additional +1 to their save if they are already in terrain.
Saw You Coming. During the foe's assault Phase, Col. Sturmveldt can make a Leadership Test for each friendly infantry unit being Charged in Assault to radio them ahead and have them pre-empt the assault, bestowing a +1 to the IN rating of the unit charged..
Excedrin Headache #5. Due to his dealing with the Daemonhost, Col. Sturmveldt is more susceptible than most to psychic attack. He has a -1 to his Saves and Checks against any psychic attack. Any successful wound by a psychically charged weapon, or weapon with any psychic abilities slays him instantly, even if the psychic ability itself failed to activate. Additionally, any successful psychic attack on Col. Sturmveldt causes +1 wounds, or a wound even if the attack does not normally cause wounds.
