I'm considering buying a Catachan and Cadian battleforce to start my army, which will give me a few decent units. I am planning on mixing maybe torso's and arms,to make a decent mix of both units. Has anyone tried this?If so how does it work?Any pics? Or should i just use the catachan and Cadian models as allies within the same army and build the models as normal? Cheers!

I just use both in the same army. Just write your fluff around the idea.

I'm also interested in how well the two sets mix together.

You can mix the models easily enough. The only problem you`ll have is with the belts. On the cadian models the belt is on the torso whereas on the catachans its on the legs. Its simple enough to overcome. If you look back far enough I`m sure there was a topic on combining the two sets with plenty of pictures.

Ha-Ha! Another divine visionary over here! I too have had a desire to attempt this. However, non-linearly to you, I attempted it.
For my Carcathan Marine Corps (A Light Infantry Army), I combined a number of elements to make my average trooper.
Cadian Head Cadian Torso Catachan Arms Catachan Legs
I then modeled on rolled-up sleeves with green stuff.
As was mentioned by 9th Company, the belts is the most challenging part. I was being hasty, so I just left both belts on, claiming that my men were very tall and wore utility belts.
Smeh.
Take it or leave it, I love the idea,
-S.B.
NOTE: I might find some odd method of posting up some pics if I really feel all that motivated.

I've kept most models separate, but made my catachan models the veterans and command squad veterans that I think are better reflected by their more gregarious models and flexible sprue. I use the cadians as my footsloggers and heavy weapons teams (although mixed in with RT era imperial guard). The key (I think) is colour scheme, whatever patterns you go for, have a clear idea about what each separate model style does and subtley reflect their job in the paint scheme provided...

Mixing torso and legs is more hassle than it is worth IMO. So I tend to stick with cadian legs and torsos (at some point I'll decide what to use all the catachan bodies for, most likely GS flak armour over their bodies when I have the time).
Arms, heads and extras combine easily and look great. GS rolled sleeves are pretty easy to do, and look great, and vastly increase the variety of poses u can get with out having to chop arms (and gives u 2 types of lasguns), shouldber pads for catachan arms can eitehr be GS of combine two arms together, altho I prefer the GS option as it is easer to get to look right.
If you have access to Marine scout parts, some of their bits can add some nice variety too:D
