Ok, so I am working on a new Hydra. I am looking to field it especially in the Apoc games, but want to get a bit of advice from those who have placed her on the field before.
I know others have flyers as I am not the only one with them, but want to know how everyone else would utilize them on the field. What tactics do you use on deployment, how do you protect them, etc...
thanks in advance.

One guy in oui group fields a (home-built) Hydra on a Merkava chassis, but uses it for anti-infantry as we have no fliers (scratch-built, converted or FW), so, hopefully others will be more helpful with advise. Why did I post???

they very multi purpose but fragile, because its main use is against flyers put it nice and secure. as your opponent will want to scratch it before his expensive flyer makes its entrance, its anti infantry roll is really a last ditch thing. sure its twin linked long auto cannons. can be useful but once exposed it will get killed. the threat is better then the reality with it, make sure its well protected. hope thats some help.

lol I was thinking of getting 2 of these things I am terrified of the possibility of a flyer blasting me into oblivion and plus I think that 2 hydras would be a very good thing to use in deed

Thanks for the advice so far.
Was hoping to see something a bit more detailed, but I'll take what I can.
I know that the HYdra must have LOS and I still get my BS when shooting at flyers in Apoc, but was looking to see what other ways one might suggest in protection and cover. Should I take track guards (Don't have plans to move it), or should I model it on a stationary platform. Perhaps I should screen it with troops or other tanks. Etc...

The Hydra is a great tank that is very versatile. I have used one in a normal game against Nids and it does well. Against Eldar it would also be good against taking down Falcons as you get a lot of high strength (relatively) shots.
With regards to protecting it in Apoc games then all you can do is screen it behind terrain and other vehicles. There is nothing you can do to protect against flyers as they can move anywhere. The best option would be to probably have 2 or more and hope they only have one flyer. The last option is to pray to the Emperor that all shots that are aimed at the Hydra miss or fail to glance or penetrate.
I wouldn't model it as a platform as it would only have AV 10 all around, anything can get it then and I believe it would not survive as long.
