I have a question. It seems to me like everyone here absolutly hates all the recent codices cause they either make a race too ba d or too good, or makes them too vanilla. Recent ones like Codex: Orkz, Eldar, Chaos, Black Templars, stuff like that. Is this really true? Are they really messing up Warhammer 40000? Or are we just getting out of hand?

Bill I think the trend we are seeing with the new codex is a shape of things to come for 5th ed. Instead of keeping in line with the older codex being made for 4th they are making them in line with the 5th Ed rules. So, some of the armies will be overpowered in the 4th Ed rules, but once we are using the 5th Ed we will see that these armies are no longer overpowered.

Hmmmm...interesting, that probably is true, but what remains to be seen is whether or not they can get away with that for a year give-or-take

Remember, we're still trudging along to an IG codex which was established at the end of ed. 3, it's restrictive and has many faults. Why can't you just take three veteran units? It doesn't misbalance tht much. Why are units as rubbish as psykers a doctrine choice? Why are techpriest an elite choice. There's a lack of balance within the very codex. I'd love to see the following within the codex:
o More HQ options beyond HQ plus everything. o Fix rough riders. o Make vets a 0-3 elite option. o Make Techpriests an advisor. o Either make psykers better or drop the doctrine buy back. o Get better doctrines ... o Get some proper stated special characters. o Intoduce some of the Armoured Column vehicle wargear across (like machine spirit etc) ... o Bring back leman russ variants. o Bring back thudd guns. o Make the fast attack Hellhound well ... fast???

Personally, I like the new codexs. The only trend I see is a trend towards people to blubber when GW either balances their cheese codex or when they buff one thats been boned for far too long. And I can assure you, I am quite tired of the blubbering.

And I can assure you, I am quite tired of the blubbering. You have to admit though that you tend to see both sides of a coin in this. Those that tend to cry are the ones who try to take the same old same old up against a list they used to defeat on a fairly standard basis. Now with the new codex out (Specifically the Ork) they can no longer do that. AS for the ones who cry when a cheese list is taken down a few notches I tend to think that they are also looking at their existing list and no longer winning like they once did. Therefore, in the eyes of both players the lists are either over powered or broken. When in reality we have to look at what new tactics we have to do in order to cope with the new rules. Once 5th ed comes along we as IG are going to have to cope with a codex that was written for 3rd and updated to 4th ed. while already some of the newer codex (ORK, Chaos, Demon, BA/DA) are already written in the 5th ED format. I am looking at this change with a two fold enthusiastic anticipation. Like I am sure many others are as well. With the 5th Ed rules coming out in July we are going to have to see what it is we can achieve, and how well we are able to support the troops with what we are given.

This has gone off topic. I am interested in 5th ed, I must admit.

I hope that the 5th edition comes with more visual aid. In color, that would be nice, or it might jack up the price alot more.

I think that the new format is quite good. There are always good and bad things...
Example: good point: they bring back combat squads for SM, they include some wargear (grenades and some other things), visually easier to see and easier to count points! The bad point IMO is that we loose the armoury, it is a great loss...Where are all the waepon combo you want, and the scanner??
Other bad point is the probable loss of customisation (doctrines and chapter traits)..May be fixed by some special rules like in the DA or Orks codex??
