Okay....I just dominated a 1500 standard 40k tournament with 8 tanks. 3 hellhounds, 2 demolishers, griffon, 2 chimera transports. Everyone was sore at me cause i brought too much armor ( for them at least). Any thoughts?

too many tanks? ok, listen to my friend's list:
a)falcon, holo-field etc. & 5 fire dragons. b)2 prisms, holo-field. c)2 wave serpents with lances etc., one with a dire avengers unit, one with an autarch & banshees. d) rangers with pathfinders as 2nd troops choice. e) 2 vypers with scatter laser & shuriken cannon. all in all, 7 fast skimmers that can only be destroyed from anti-tank on a 6(or double 6 the holo-field ones).see?you are a sportsman compared to that.
second list: land raider crusader & terminators & chaplain. 2 assault squads(troops, blood angels list) 2 baal predators(!) 1 death company(obligatory, but 30 rending attacks never hurt) 5 bikes with multi-melta.yup, you heard correctly.
see?your list is normal, non-powergaming compared to other tourney lists.the fact that they don't make it a point to pack serious anti-tank punch doesnt mean anything.

Its lacking in enough Chimera's, you need a minimum of 5 to make it a balanced force... and what's wrong with three hellhounds - it's the only fast attack option really worth taking! Burn baby burn, disco inferno! I think you're enemies were just sore cos they saw IG on the roster list and were looking forward to some squishy targets for a change - only to be rolled over by your mechanised death.
Great Blitzgrieg buddy.

this is why i make it a point to all lists of all factions to have the ability to produce AT LEAST 15 str shots with str 7+ PER ROUND. that, or 30+ models with rending and 3-4 anti-tank shots. that's the "at least" scenario; imho every last, random unit should have a chance to blow up a tank. banshees?get an executioner for 5 strength to hit a tank's rear. marine squads?fist for s8. striking scorpions?fist-like that turns the exarch to s6. dark reapers?the str 8 option, please...
all in all, if an army has 15 units, 12 of them must be able to destroy a light tank(light tank=combat patrol availablle) and 10 must be able to destroy a heavy tank. if a unit doesn't have such a chance, i don't play it.
in a nutshell, it was your opponent's fault.

Are you allowed to take a standard pattern Leman russ in a patrol mission? Oh, and bayne, as a rule of thumb, you can never have too many tanks.

In my book there is never too many tanks! But that's coming from a tank fanatic who has dreams of collecting a massive Armored Company.
But in all seriousness, there really isn't any such thing as too many tanks, and your list doesn't look like a power gaming force. I see no problem, as you only had two actual Leman Russ Variants.

What would be considered a 'power gaming' armored company?

a "powergaming" armoured force, u mean? 2x5 stormies, 2melta each, 1 hq, all melta, about 250-200 pts(yay, legal!). 3 demolishers & 3 hellhounds(900 pts.) 3xchimeras with flamers.

You have too many tanks when it is impossible to fit more tanks into a list without more points. So 8 or 9 russes in 1500pt armored company is fine. 10 is not. So taking 8 tanks, most of which being chimera chassis, is perfectly accaptable, infact, take more chimeras.

Its armies like this that remind me why all my squads have one anti tank weapon. I`ll never forget how a sole guardsman armed with a missile launcher managed to take out a hellhound eventually winning me the game.
I can see how such a list would be fustrating to fight against but an anti tank army should be able to finish you off easily enough. I imagine you`d struggle once the demolishers are out of the way.
That said, if your list is legal just go for it.

Even speaking as a both a horde and elite infantry commander who considers tanks to be mere auxillaries to ground troops, I shall state this: YOU. CANNOT. HAVE. ENOUGH. Period. If your opponent is a newbie, then possibly lay off the super-cruelty, but if they are a known veteran, or worse, a powergamer, then ATTACK MY PRETTIES ATTACK!!!!. Ahem.
Right, returning to coherent thought patterns in 3....2.....1.
Bayne, your list is one of the most reasonable 'armoured might of the Emperor's war machine' lists I have ever seen. Its also nice to see that someone still uses the Griffon mortar carrier as well. Glad to hear the damned thing still exists after all.
