I was on youtube and I saw video www.youtube.com/watch?v=19en9mYcI-E&feature=related and it inspired me to make some helmet netting for my army. So today I was trying out some gs on the helmet of one of my test models I use for testing out well anything. I used the instructions for making gs hair from the GW website and just made it messier and more like fabric and I think it came out pretty good. I'll upload pics once I get my camera back up and running.

An easier way to make the netting would have been to use a bit of bandage material. Simply open it up, stretch it out and then use the white PVA glue to secure it to the helmet. The material being cotton will absorb paint well and can be dyed any color you want prior to being glued, or painted afterwards once it is in place.
Can't wait to see your pics though.

I use surgical gauze to make my Ghillie suits. I'm sure it would work for helmet netting.

Seeing as i'm new I don't want to undermine your greatness Commissar but in order for it to be an L85 (SA-80) surely it would need to be a bulpup design? This is of course if you were going down the 'absolute realism' road Ciaphas.

FN-FAL ahead on CCs pic Flat top, long barrel that isn't centered, but lowered... You can make the Cadian lasgun easily look like G36 (cut out the targeting device, clue plastic card over it, adda new centred barrel with plastic tube, add a retractable/folding stock with plastic tube, add a curved magazine, and don't forget a new targetting device) FN-FAL: just do as CC did and glue the barrel a bit lower than normal and take a quite long one
