Ok, there are a lot of schools of thought here on the board.
What does everyone think is the best tactical use of a Techpriest?
Normally, I will run one with the Hellhound squad tooled out with the 4 tech servitors. SInce he is on the move there is no reason to give him the combat or the gun servitors. Weapon cost and all. Especially with the point that the hellhound is targeted often enough that it is nice to loose a weapon and roll the 2+ to have it returned on my turn. Key is to run them in contact with the vehicle, down side is that he is ofcourse in any blast radius should the vehicle explode on a pen.
THe gun servitor is nice, but unless they make him a stable platform I tend to shy away from the cost of them. Too expensive a fig to have sitting on his backside twiddling his thumbs and playing grab the monkey while waiting for a clear line of fire.
COmbat servitors also have a higher cost then what I want to pay for the benifits.
One of the other tactics I do is giving the Tech priest the Honorifica Imperalis to keep him that much more survivable. 3+ save and the HSO stat line. Got to love it.

I dont have a techpriest but I've been thinking about getting one along with a few servitors, this gives me more to think about.

I have two Tech priests with my army. Sometimes one operates on his own, sometimes I add him to my command company squad and give him Honorifica Imperialis, this guy can give anyone a headache! Plus, if their transport gets damaged it's easy for him to sort it out.
Most often though, I'd prefer to keep both my enginseers together and keep them behind my main battle tanks. (Leman Russ) Both these Techpriests have at least two tech servitors. I don't bother giving them any wargear other than what they already have. They never get into comabat and rarely in range of bolters, lasguns etc.

The few times I've fielded a techpriest, they have constantly performed sub-par. The best value I think is when they are with tech servitors. It is relatively cheap and somewhat useful. I generally split the armor in my army into two groups. Lights on one flank and heavies on the other. It always seem that they need to run to the other end of the field to fix something (a somewhat difficult task to do). When it works, it works well, but when they dont fix anything, I question if I spent my points wisely. The Honorifica is great on them, but I would generally like to put that on a JO in a platoon command squad.
I have heard that the combat outfit works well, I just cant justify the points cost and small squad size. I've never used this setup.
With gun servitors, this group could be awesome. The problem is that nobody agrees on whether the servitors count against the Wargear limit on the Techpriest. If they do (and by the way the cost of the gun is added to the cost of the servitor), it is impossible to turn this squad into a very shooty group. If they dont, then you can have a great sniper/support squad. I dont feel like making up an army list just to have it challenged because GW cant make up their mind on this ruling.

According to the codex the servitors are not part of the wargear limit. However, the FAQ says they are. GW follow the most up to date rulings so in the end the servitors are part of the wargear limit and thus the cost gets dramatic and easily comes to the total max of what the tech priest can take.
The gun is part of the servitor cost which is part of the cost of war gear. Just can't see spending 50+ points for one model that goes away as soon as the techpriest is killed since war gear can not stay on the field and fight independently.

^^^ ah yes, the codex does say that they are not. The problem is that there are two prints of the same codex. The "first" 4th edition printing said they are included. Then the FAQ came out saying they were, and Lastly, the "second" 4th codex came out that said they don't. Now the question of do we trust a more-recent codex, or a FAQ that seems to Fix a problem that wasnt present for the codex it was made for. Now if GW could only say what they want all the time...

the best way i found was to kit one techpriest enginseer out with 4heavy bolter servitors and the other enginseer with 4technical servitors and keep them close togehter in a chimera
