I decided I wanted to try something different recently and so in a couple of games a few of weeks ago I used my Baneblade to represent the Macharius Heavy tank. The results were mixed.
I played on behalf of the Imperium against a really big hoarde of Necrons. There were easily over 150 Necron warriors on the table! there were also 5 Monoliths and a Pylon. Fighting alongside my Death korps were two marine armies and a Vostroyan Tank Company.
I opted to use the standard Macharius Heavy tank. The one with the two Battle cannons. It was pretty effective, although I'm not keen on the way the way the main guns work. The rules dictate that the two cannons must fire at the same target. I found this to be a bit of an inconveniance because if you can't kill a target with one battle cannon a second battle cannon shell isn't going to do much more, but still, these main guns were effective at killing the Necron Warriors. Atleast 20 were killed by the Macharius. Although I'd like to point out that is was only the warriors the tank managed to inflict damage upon. This tank is crap against armour. I can't even see the Vanquisher variant doing much against tanks because the two cannons have to fire at the same target.
Anyway to summerise, I was quite impressed with this tank but I'd have a baneblade over one of these any day. Although, if you wany to get some heavy ordnance on the table for less, I'd recommend this tank, just don't expect it to do as much damage as a Baneblade. You will be disapointed if you do.
I think I'll give this tank a 7.5/10. Not bad. In my next game I'm gonna test out the malcador.
Has anyone else had much success with the Macharius? Has anyone had more experiance with one?
If yo aren't familiar with the tank follow the link to see a picture. The rules are in IA:5
