your leadership is modified by how many models you lost combat by now.
for example: if I killed 1 enemy and he killed 6 of mine, I'm at -5 to leadership.
can you say ouch for IG?!

So if you throw 50 conscripts at a squad of lightening clawed termies then you're stuffed, even with a commissar standing behind them.

No.... for surely if you fail your test, he simply shoots another conscript and they fight on.

Just re read it and it's worked out by the number of wounds not the number of kills. But it doesnt say if these include saved wounds ie You inflict ten wounds but the Smurfs save eight and two marines die. When it comes to morale modifiers do you use all ten wounds inflicted or just the two unsaved ones?

conscripts and commissars still work because they're not "fearless" per se.
if a unit is fearless, then it still has to take a leadership test - if it fails it takes more wounds. killing gaunts will be easier for ogryn.
in the happy news section, there's a rule definition for 'retinue' which makes our officers 'hidden' in their command squads now !!!! yay for powerfists returning!
to sour the good news a bit however, powerfists and thunderhammers have been added to the list of melee weapons that require another of it's kind to get the bonus attack from 2 close combat weapons. so now if you want +1 attack for 2 CCWs you need double powerfists or double thunderhammers (lightning claws are, ofcourse, still on this list).
still though - I'm super happy to have my officer be a part of his command squad and not fighting as a separate unit in melee.
on a side note - independent characters without a unit can be shot at any time now as they now count as a single model unit. if you see a marine commander alone - shoot him. you can. even at 42.5" range.

Which brings to bear why would anyone want to attach A fearless commissar to a bunch of conscripts now that fearless units will take wounds if they loose combat and are out numbered.
The Independent Commissar now is the far better choice.
