having just flicked through my new 5th ed book, it strikes me that COD is a very powerful docterine.
i receave a charge, and can instantly organise my squad into ranks to repell it. thus getting the bonus, with out having to bother with having my troops like this at the end of the movement phase.
Have i read this right?

maybe however if you can just make sure that all the proper rules are met such as engaging all the possible models in base to base. i supposed you could purposely line your men up

hmmm that's an interesting thought. I would like to see this one verified becuase it could be a very efficient tool. Although I suspect we'll probably be denied the ability to use "defenders react" to form up ranks which, I think, could be argued to be legitimate as it represents someone barking orders and well-drilled troops reacting to a charge like you say

I just played a game using this tactic last night. it is pretty easy keeping your guys close enough to use the CoD once you are in HtH. By the way the assault movement works, you should have a very good chance of clustering your troops

I'd like to be able to take it, but I have forsworn off doctrines, since we're going to lose them soon anyway! Still, It's very very tempting.
