Reading through fifth edition I stumbled across the following:
All rapid fire weapon have to fire their maximum shots if within 12"!
OH CRAP I thought quietly to myself. Now it's 1-2 to immolate on the gets hot roll everytime.
But then I read on to the universal rules and found the following:
"For each result of 1 rolled on its to hit roll the firing model suffers a wound. Normal saving throws apply."
Err - yippee! I believe the rule was 1 or 2 on two shots from the plasma. This now no longer apllies. That's a 1/3 chance dropped to a 1/6 chance over 2 shots.
Additionally, rerolls can now reroll 1's (although codex take precident so sharpshooters doesn't count) that said could be very handy for city fight?

Where does it say Sharpsooter doesn't work on plasma? I've been cheating then. I figured that a more experienced plasmagunner would be able to nurse his gun better and avoid overheats

I thought it stated ''except from plasma (which few man survive long enough to master) and sniper rifles (where the slightest inaccuresy ruins the shot).
But something I thought of to make plasma even saver: Master crafted plasma! now how does that sound? it may be a bit expensive though.

Well a master crafted pistol obviously overheats less.
However I don't use plasma pistols, too expensive for what little use they get and they could kill the character/vet sgt.

I think plsama pistlos are great.
I once had a game which went very badly for me when I lost with my Black Templars against my freind's valhallen imperial guard. He moved his Sentinel squadron, armed with Heavy flamers, within 12" of my lone Marshall. I chose not to move with him and shot twice with his plasma pistol. He managed to kill 2 Sentinels. It's fair to say that I was pretty pleased with his peformance in that game!

Nope, afraid not. Plasma cannons are somewhat more inaccurate now. While the Guard don't get man-portable cannons, so they can avoid the overhead possibility (Marines still have to roll a dice before they fire the plasma cannon - it overheats on a one), they scatter now like any other blast template - 2D6-BS", which is 0" to 9".

While the Guard don't get man-portable cannons.... This still upsets me Yay for plasma though! The medic can put his feet up for a bit now...!
