I was thinking about this while i was looking at many imperial guard armies.
Do Imperial Guard players have a propensity to Base their models, with a snow base?
If so why?
I do it, and i never really gave it much thought until now.

well it depends on the army, where it comes from, where its usual stationed, and WHERE it fights.

I really want to base mine in snow. For me, My ideal living temperature is the lower the better. But I only have sand to base it with, so I make do.

might work for a frosted effect, but not sure about for snow. see how it works I guess. I base mine on a base coat of scorched earth, add a few bits of slate, and then add shale and flock grass to taste. simple and reasonably quick. Ok, not really that quick, but could be worse

I base my in accordance with the boards I play on. Nearly all the boards in my Local shop are City Fight/City Terrain, so black and greys with the odd bit of metal here and there.
Sometimes we play on the Fantasy boards, more grassy, but hey, it doesn't look so bad.
If you don't mind then just think about what planet they come from and go from there.

Since my guard is currently getting converted to fit in as traitor guard with my Slaanesh CSM (who are black with pink on snowy city base), they'll all get snowy city bases as well.
I use simple sand for the base, adding some bits, painting it in dark greys for the city and then I add the GW snow. Depending on what sort of snow I want to have, I mix it with woodworking glue, just use a singe layer or mix in some colour if I want muddy snow (like the one that is left on the street after some time, sort of brown coloured and really muddy)
