Right I'm working on a mounted force. So on the troop side of my army I have a complete infantry platoon and an armoured fist squad.
Is it legal for me to then take a squad of veterans and take them for a spin in their own Chimera as well?
I cant see anything saying that's not allowed as I have the one AFist per platoon covered already. Obviously according to the Codex they'd lose their infiltrate ability though.
Thanks guys

No, you're allowed to do that. It doesn't count as an Armored Fist squad, I think--like if you were mounting Stormtroopers. I have a mounted Vet squad myself, and recommend it strongly. How are you planning to outfit them?

The veterans entry in the codex says you can give them their own Chimera, what is stopping me from taken them? Surely it just counts as an Elite choice?
Simplified army list would look like -
HQ - blah blah
TROOP - 1 Platoon Command + 2 squads
- Armoured Fist Squad and transport
ELITE - Veteran Squad and transport

Yeah, one Elite choice--the Chimera is bought as an upgrade for the entire squad.

They loose their infiltrate only if you deploy them mounted. Just like the Tau Pathfinders can not infiltrate using the devil fish. You can still deploy using the infiltrate so long as you are not mounted. The Chimera in the 5th ed rules would just carry someone else at the begining of your movement phase.

ok cheers that's cool. Was thinking of ragging it across the board and unloading to dish out the melta pain.
However, I guess that is still perfectly achievable without the transport and just infiltrating. Nice to have a big metal shield though and some multi-laser, heavy-bolter, heavy stubber supporting fire! (9 shots thankyou).

it is perfectly viable to deploy mounted veterans from reserve utilizing the outflank option due to the fact the squad has infiltrate so thusly, it may outflank, even if mounted. hope this helps with, as you put it, 'dishing out the melta pain'

I almost always mount my vets in a Chimera. You've got exactly the right idea on how to use them mounted, get the close and unload on a unit. I however, play the more risky game and dish out plasma pain. A vet unit can rapid fire 8 plasma shots at close range, not counting what they can throw from their flashlights. Sure a few guardsmen die here and there when their gun explodes in their face, but heck, that's what Guardsmen are for. It's great fun to wipe a Terminator squad off the board with a cheaper veteran squad.

I don't mount anything in chimeras at all. I have found them the be a waste of points... they lack enough AP effective weapons to damage most armies. They are bullet magnets and lack the armour to do so, I mean anything strength 8 above has a STRONG chance of destroying it. Mine bcame known as maggie the bullet magnet and rarely survived turn 2... so "maggie" became Hades, the hellhound (after some conversions)... raining the fires of DOOOOOOM upon my enemies.

EXACTLY the same thing here, except i played Tau and it was killed in the FIRST shooting phase. And a hellhound conversion can be completed very easily. And i wouldnt recomend putting your vets in a chimera. Save your chimera for a troops choice so they can grab those objectives. I

I don't think putting your vets in the chimera is a good idea. Because yes, it will get destroyed, rather quickly. Especially if the opponent knows what's in it (i.e.: 3 meltas, a plasma pistol, and a whole bunch of flashlights!)
