Ok, i know this may be tedious and boring, but it would greatly be appreciated if someone helped me form a good army layout.
troops i have are: 60 cadian troops 2 leman russ 1 basilisk 6 heavy weapons crew 1 sentinal 5 riders 2 melta guns (just the guns) 2 flamethrowers (just the gun) 20 battle sister units (from Witch Hunters)
im metioning what i got from stuff i bought. so thinks can be changed, like for example: when i mention heavy weapons crews, it can be autocannons or lasscannons or watever that came with the set. for officers, im just gonna put a different head on the cadian troops.
my biggest concern is what guns to use on the heav weapons crew and how i should distribute my troops (e.g. should i form ehavy weapons squads, or put them in infantry squads. or should i have one big platoon, or 3 platoons?)
thanks guys

Well it's a fairly difficult question you asked at first. Because I don't know your playing style and preferences, etc. What I will do is give you this advice: Start building up a small list up first. Then do a few small games and try to think off what you could use the most to expand you force. For example: 2 platoons or 1 platoon with a AF squad a standard leman russ and a hq command with maybe a support squad. so now, which heavy weapons to use and where? Well that's matter of personal preference (and doctrines) too. At first decide how you want to play and which doctrines to use. Then I'll be glad to help you with it. There's not one and the best way to play guard, everybody haves another vision on that and you need to find your style first before you should ask advice about how to work...
I hope it helps.
ps: wouldn't it be better to put this into the army list section btw?

and the poblem is that if i try teams out, then my soldiers would already have their guns glued on them. what if i want to change them? i cant since the guns are already glued.

I'm sorry did you just asked me which are lascannons good against?!, because I think it's pretty obvious that a lascannon is anti tank, heavy bolter is good against all 4+ save infantry, autocannon is good against 4+ save infantry and light vehicles, but has a shot less then the heavy bolter a missile launcher is even better against light vehicles and 6+ save infantry and mortar good vs infantry/ and has indirect fire. All this is pretty obvious, and you shouldn't really need anybody to get to know this. Although you can ask it if you want. But then you'll have to hope that there's somebody on the boards here with the brain capacity like an ape to spend his time answer those simple questions (like me ) Now onto your weapon swap problem: there are lots of people here who use magnets for that, yes you'll have to spend much more time with this. But this is the only way I could think of to solve your problem. And a good tip: Assuming that you'll build you commander (and staff) and two command squads (with the officers) from you normal cadians and will make a gunline army you get this: command squad with special weapons (4 guardsmen and officer) Platoon command (2x) (2 guardsmen + officer + heavy weapon team) Squads (4x) (8 guardsmen + heavy weapon team) This will leave you 17 spare guardsmen, which you can use for further heavy weapon teams (there are plenty heavy weapons left). You only have to buy a few 40mm bases extra. But if you don't want a gunline army but a more mobile army you only have to get the heavy weapon squads at of the normal infantry squads. This will leave you with 5 spare guardsmen and 6 heavy weapon teams to put in support squads. Well that's all the advice I'll give you unless your going to read the codex and 5th ed. rulebook WELL through and decided what you actually want. Now enough time spend in this post, let's get your lazy @ss from the couch and work!

Nope, I said you will only have to buy a few 40mm bases EXTRA(!) Please open one of your heavy weapon team boxed sets and you will see that there are lots of heavy weapons in it, but just 2 guardsmen (or 6 in the case of a 3-heavy weapon teams boxed set). So you can make up to 6 heavy weapon teams from the boxed sets you already own. But after that you find yourself having a lot of heavy weapons spare but no guardsmen and/or 40mm bases. You will only have to use your extra 40mm bases (which you bought because I say so) and some normal guardsmen from the cadian shock troops boxed set. Next, mount those guardsmen onto you extra 40mm bases give them a missile launcher, mortar, autocannnon or whatever you have left. And let the second guardsmen carry the ammo! Now I can't be more clear, can I?

dont mount them on the big bases, opponents get insanely confused by the simple concept of 2 men on one base, instead, mount the gunner and the weapon on the same base and have the loader be seperate, take a look at our classic heavy weapons to see what i mean
