The title kind of says it all. It was a 1000pt game. My guard vs. a guys nids. He killed four men out of my command squad and the other ran away. I killed all of his bugs. If anyone wants an actual report I'll right one, but I thought even this short report would lift the moral of my fellow footslogging guardsmen. Emperor Protects

"All the emporer requires of us guardsmen is that we stand the line, and die standing. It is what we do best, we die standing."-General sturm of the cadian 412th, battle of lorn V. What a beautiful speech!

Technically 5 of your men died.
The man that ran away was quite obviously shot by a passing commisar.
Congratulations on the Victory!

Those four lives must be remembered! Me and my squad just observed a 1 minute silence period! At attention! It's men like those four the Imperium needs!

As per requested, here is your full after action report:
I would first like to make note of the incompetence of the opposing commander. This was the third time I'd faced his nids and the each battle had similar results as well. This was also the second battle I'd played on the same battle field. The first battle was against orks. In that battle I actually killed a nob or some sort of boss and his biker attendant with my mortor support team in close combat. That was pretty impressive as well. Anyway, here's the report
Its been quite a while since the game but I think my list was something like this:
My force: HQ Jo w/ x2 GL and one ML
Troop Jo w/ x2 GL and one ML x3? Squads w/ HB and Flamer x3 Lascannons x3 Mortors
Armored Fist x1 Squad with AC
Fast Attack Hellhound?
Heavy Support x1 Leman Russ x1 Demolisher?
His List: Lots of bugs with a maxed out carny some genestealers and other stuff.
I split my force between two defensives positions on my side. There was a three story building on my right flank which I deployed my three squads and command teams. My lascannons and mortors were also in the building. On the left flank was a set of ruins. To the left of the ruins I deployed my chimera. Inside the ruins were my armored fist squad and to the right of it was my hellhound (If I had one, I can't quite remember...). Between the two buildings I deployed my Russ (or demolisher or both... can't remember) because due to terrain the nids were going to have to funnel down the center of the board and this presented the best kill zone.
As expected the Nid player sent his main body right down the middle of the board offering perfect kill zones from both the fire bases on my left and right flank. This also bottled them up presenting perfect targets for both my tank(s) and my mortors. As a side note, my morters are consistently one of my best performing units. I was able to cut down the last of his infantry just as they reached the edges of the building I was in on my right flank. The only damage they did was from their big bugs in the back who he'd given ranged weapons. They shot up my command squad pretty well. Oh, and to quell any confusion, the last man did NOT retreat, he just fell back to secure his missile launcher. I would have hated to lose it. I was then able to concentrate fire on the big boys in the back and bring them down without much trouble. Instead of supporting his main offensive with the carnifex he sent it down my left flank. Unfortunately for me there was a huge building there and I couldn't see it until it broke through right in front of my left flank. (mean while the end of his forces were reaching my right flank and I couldn't spare any firepower) I then had to decide whether I should load of the chimera and make a run for it or just stay and bog down the carny until I could deal with it using my main force. I decided to do the Imperial Guard thing and sacrifice my left flank Just as the fex reached my gun line, he failed his moral check (no longer a synapse independent character) and ran from my gun line. I like to think he was just blinded by all those flashlights. He then ran back into the building until it could regain its composure. By the time it was good to go it came back into the open and was hit by every gun in my army (well within the 24" range of my lasguns on the right flank) and was brought down in a whithering hail of gunfire.
And so ended the game with only four guardsmen deaths.

I actually think this battle and the one before it would make a decent short story. I may have to work on that.

My Aeonians play loud the long horns of victory, for you, my good Colonel, and for your four lost men. The four men in blue shall always be remembered, as heroes who gave their lives for the Emperor.
But seriously, very good job with the victory ;D

Actually, there were a lot of heavy bolter shots in there. I think the bright lights mostly just confused the big bug.

Just because they don't hurt it, doesn't mean I can't shoot at it. :-) Like I said, its been a while since the game and all I know is that everything in my army shot at it and it went down.

HAHAHAHA, now that's the philosophy I like to hear on guard tactics! Go give 'em more of it! Yes, the more las shots you can forcibly shove down your opponent's throats, the better!
By the way, relating to the topic of weak weapons that aren't even effective at killings small children, go to the Beginners board section and look at my new thread. It's got a high priority symbol on it.
