well, there are many schools of thought on this one, but i was curious on which weapons are the most\least popular with the people here, my personal favorite one has to be the grenade launcher, its a versitle and cheap gun, although its AT potential is now, lets face it, crap, its blast potential has gone up since there are no more partial hits

The grenade launcher, cheap, versitile. And as newcomer said, its better in 5th. I once destroyed a SMurf dreadnought on the 1st turn with a krak grenade with a lucky shot. One f my earlier successes.

It depends alot on who I'm fighting. I usually take a mixture of Grenade launchers and Flamers.
If I was fighting marines I'd stick to Plasma guns though....

Meltaguns have always been a big appeal to me. I supose its the idea of having to charge towards the enemy armour, death or glory kind of thing. Always a great sense of satisfaction if you can pull it off. Tactically, mayb not best

My votes going to the grenade launcher, its versatile, and the blast is great in 5th. Plus its unique to IG!!
But i typically go for a mix of Grenade launchers, plasma guns and a few flamers.

Its all a rumor. Besides, We get a new codex too...
I Like the grenade launcher for its versatility, but I like the melta gun for a sheer destructive force.

seeing that grenade launcher attached to the smurf bike just breaks my heart, how could they do that to us.
I never found the grenade launcher much use in the 4th edition, but now its a lot better il be using it a lot more, but that said i prefer the plasma gun 2 shots at strength 7 and AP2 all for such a cheap point coast, its great what more could u whant

I have to go with Plasma. Not because I like the rules the most, but because I like the Renegade Plasma-arms...

I run Missile/Grenade in all my squads. I try to field as much pie as possible, even against MEQ armies.

Shoot at something enough and eventually it will fall down...
Even if it's wearing a tin canand armed with what could arguably be called: Flak Armour? What Armour?

flamers all the way, baby! I love flamers, because they are a garrentied (or however you spell it) hit, and it ignores cover saves, AND, it hits multiple targets. I usually use hardened veteran squads armed with 3 flamers, mounted in a hellhound with a heavy flamer.
Burn, Baby! Burn!

I can't say that I have a favorite. My guard army uses plasma, grenade launchers and flamers all good for the squads that they are in. I find that Equiping every squad with the same special weapons is kind of pointless because there are so many different battle field situations. Although if told to pick it would have to be the flamer I also have a Hardended Vats squad with 3 flamers that does absolutly wounderfull things to enemy units as well as having shotguns they lay down some massive dice rolling hurt.

A mix is (in my opinion) best for an army (i run lots of vet-squads, so 3 per squad)
Grenades are great, I use krak nades for individual kills Plasmas are always cool, great for marines and low AT capability Meltas are AWESOME for marines and AT capability.

I love flamers but they've got a really short range which generally puts the squad into assault and limits the shots of said flamer. For that reason I went with Plasma. Good strength and AP and who doesn't find it amusing when the plasma gunner accidently takes himself out. Overkill indeed...

Grenade Launcher for me - gotta love that 24' assualt weapon! I use meltaguns and flamers in my command squads to counter attack anything that reaches my gun line.

I mix in all of them, but I looove flamers so much, it's not even funny. The only reason I haven't picked up a few hellhounds is because I'm waiting to see if they release an all-plastic kit with the new codex.
The main reason I use them so much is because a) they don't rely on the guardsman's BS, and b) they make opponents think twice about engaging in CC. Nothing says "Get away from me!" like a half dozen flamer templates.

I like grenade launchers... mostly because they look awesome and remind me of Sarge's Heroes.

Played my first game ever today with a tonne of flamers (6 i think) in 500 pts. Infantry platoon command squad had 4 Flamers and, well it just decimated his 20 strong Boyz squad that got to my lines. The Grenade did well, but having the Flamer templates lined up was just like a wall of death.
What's the best way of getting more models of Guards with Flamers as I had to use a friends SM flamers? (only have 20 glued Cadians so far).

See what I mean? You can't go wrong with flamers ;D
Glad to hear that your first match went so well. Death to the Greenskins! (was this the list that's posted in the army list section?)
As to the flamer question, the Cadian Shock Trooper sprues should have 4 complete flamer upgrades, so I recommend just getting a box or three of those. There are also some companies that offer individual bits (i.e. the Flamer tanks and arms, 10 guardsmen heads, etc) to allow you to upgrade your force. I know of a few over here in the States, but none in the UK. I'm sure someone else does though.

Yeah, it is the list. Haven't been bothered to do any sort of write up or whatever as it is only my first game. But yeah, he as kinda pissed when he got into Ork "territory" (nose to nose with the Guard) and then got more than a bit toasty.
And thanks for the info on Flamer sprues. Gonna have 4 spare Guardsmen once I get 2 Heavy Weapons squads.
And to keep it on topic... woot, flamers.
