Well, it's almost 3 AM and here I am, all snug and warm back at my house, here to share the highs and lows of the new kill point system with you.
I battle with my friend Jon usually, but sometimes we like to battle strangers at Challenge Games in Lubbock, TX. If you're around there, hit me up for a battle.
Anyway, I had a 1250 list of Guard and my friend Jon had about 1580 pts of Orks.
My battle against the Tau (a kid named Joshua) was rather interesting. Annihilation Rules, Dawn of War deployment. Highlights:
1. Again, TLoS makes everything run much smoother.
2. This kid bought his models off E-Bay, but he was a good sport. Didn't squeal, didn't pitch a fit when he lost his stuff. I can't expect a 12-year-old like him to have the patience for painting, or maybe I don't want to see the unholy result of his artistic concoctions.
3. Leman Russ vs. Pathfinders = RAEP!. I brought in my LR during Turn 4, right after he had used his Pathfinders' Infiltrate ability to outflank me on the left, and then they went away with a lucky hit from its boomgun.
4. Tau weapons are MURDER. Even if they don't pen my armor, most wound T3 models on a 2. Thankfully, I was able to milk my cover saves for all they're worth.
5. My Armored Fist Squad's chimera blew up in the middle of the field, creating a large crater in which first the Squad, and later my deep-striking stormies landed. They didn't kill very much, but they made very good bullet magnets to keep fire off my Missile/Grenade squads.
6. I think a good addendum to the Kill Points rule should go something like this- Anything (unit/independent character) with a 2+ Armor or a 2+ Invuln save or a vehicle with a total armor value of 40+ gives 2 kill points, and further anything that has a 2+
Armor Save with an Invuln and anything with 14-round armor gives 3 kill points. This way, Nec Armies will give a lot by losing their Monolith, and SPESS MUHREEN armies will lose alot when they lose Termie/Termie-armored Leaders. It will sort of balance out the 16 KP my whole army can give.
Orks vs. SPESS MUHREENS
1. Run your Orks. Just Run them. Jon gave this gentleman a turn or two of extra shooting because he wanted to shoot him up with his special weapons. DERP.
2. Epically painted armies- like this gentleman's Space Marines- seem to have the favor of the Dice Gods, their name be praised.
3. I'm too tired to go into any more depth. To compensate, pictures:
Awesome terrain is awesome. And terrain.
Joshua trying to use his Christian Magicks to get my guys to come out of their area terrain.
The battle rages! Who shall be victorious!?! Also, Leman Russ reinforcements FTW.
Jonathan stealthily snatches my large blast Template while Joshua's Hammerhead and Piranha make it into the fray. Meanwhile, his pathfinders stare down the barrel of my anti-infantry Leman Russ while my anti-tank LR stares curiously at the giant red monolith that has appeared on the battlefield. Also, hidden Basilisk.
My commander lost out to the ex-drones of my opponent's ex-Piranha. The squad you see here rended the artificial xenos filth asunder in CC the next turn.
I lost that battle by a margin of 1 kill point, but I think it went well enough. The Kill Point system isn't wholly unbalanced if your opponent is willing to give some concessions.
Jon's goal is to be able to field 180 Orks- 1080 pts. He's got 110 right now. I think it's enough, Jon. I think it's enough.
Night all. For the Emperor and all that. Tomorrow.
