Thought i'd start this so infantry commanders like myself can discuss infantry tactics for people who don't have 20 tanks. Lol.
To start- One tactic i've thought up for capturing objectives but haven't put into practice is to use the doctrines-cameleoline, light inf and sharpshooters. My infantry platoons consist of 2 types of squad in equal consistancy, some tooled up with heavy weapons and long range assualt weapons and some tooled up with combat and assualt weapons. I use my light inf abilities to get into a position inside difficult terrain where my cameleoline gives my units good cover saves with line of sight to the objective. My fire supports squads unleash hell on the objective/ target (sharpshooters allows me to unleash deady volleys of heavy and lasgun fire) while my assault squads charge the objectives and, supported by the fire base in the terrain try to wrest control of the objective from the enemy.

Be careful of flamer heavy armies (sisters of battle esp) that rhino up to ur possition, jump out and flame the hell out of em, as no saves, they all just die

Yeah i even though you probably will get cover saves from every angle flamers are more popular now and drop pods are going to be used more (plastic ones) a big flamer smurf unit kills (I have experienced this; list was meant to kill orks and it owned me ) kno who plays at your shop or tournements heavy combat and flamers will own your camo for the extra 10 points per units replace camo with carapace it is +4 save trust me alot better combat wise and shooting i mean you will have to drop light infantry (i kno snipers are cool and all) but take ratlings there keep and +1 cover trust me if you dont like the model just take reg snipers and say they are ratlings then on the sharpshooters good idea only give it too your heavy weapons okay i love your combination it isnt so competitive (remember the list doesn't determine the game the player and strategy does) the best players sometimes challenge themselves by taking bad list and trying to beat people The doctrine fluff totally mixes and your models could look awsome If you are new or maybe played a different army keep your options open play with generic doctrines that you believe wont change the diffculty of game play. Then when you start to get good customize your army, saves money and time

I took light infantry not just for moving faster through terrain, being able to have infiltrate my infantry units into good firing positions or closer to objectives since only troops can capture objectives. The doctines also fit with the fluff of my army. I origonaly had carapace back when i was but a newblood but decided, why pay 20 points for one doctrine when i could get 2 for the same price. I dropped it for the sake of points. Some of your other suggestions, i'm considering taking up.

The only reason i don't use ratlings is because of fluff and crap models.

i've always found that the rat is a useful tool the ability to wack high toughness models very easily with cheap shooters is totally a good thing.

That must have been a day to remember. If they get rid of restricted unit doctrined in the new codex i'll definately take sniper units. If i could cause a few rending hits on thos termies that'd probably pin them for a turn or two.

If one dislikes ratlings, there are always the Catachan snipers.
