This is what I had for my very first game...
commissar.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=armylist&action=display&thread=3682
My Opponent had the following;
Nightbringer
Destroyer Lord with Scythe, Ress Orb, Gaze of Flame, Phylactery
20 Warriors w/ Disruption
11 Warriors w/ "
10 Warriors w/ "
3 Destroyers
3 Heavy Destroyers
10 Scarab bases on Deep strike /w Disruption
Monolith
The battlefield was set up by an independent player, making it very symmetrical with a large ruin in the two opposing table quarters, along with a few firepoints and barbed wire fences. My opponent rolled for the mission, getting Secure and Control, I rolled and got Spearhead deployment. There were 3 Objectives, one placed in each ruin, and the last slightly to the south of the centre of the table.
He won the roll, and decided to deploy first, taking the opposite quarter that I would have taken had I been in his shoes. He kept his Scarabs and Monolith in reserve. His large Warrior squad took the North west Firestep, the smaller squads deploying behind the ruin that dominated that quarter, along with Nightbringer.
I deployed the majority of my force in my southeast quarter, one squad and the Platoon command squad sitting on the objective in the ruin, another crouching behind the wire fence, close to the second Objective. My third squad deployed close to them, with the Armoured Fist squad behind them. Forming a firing line between the ruin and the barded wire, with the two russes, the autocannon team, the lascannon team and the Command HQ on the firepoint.
The Sentinels went for an Outflank, the Grey Knights were on Deep strike, and the Special Weapon team were on reserve.
I failed to Seize the Initiative.
Turn One
The Necron Destroyers advanced, but targeting the Squad in the ruin instead of the Russ, much to my surprise. The two small Warrior squads ran towards the ruin, to take the objective hidden there.
I advanced the squad that was with the Armoured Fists, trying to get them into the Southwest firestep. Shooting began with the Russ battlecannons, knocking two out of three of the heavy destroyers, and all three of the destroyers, which was forced to phase out. The autocannons and lascannons fired at the Nightbringer, causing two wounds.
Turn Two
The Scarabs arrived, deep striking behind the ruins I was occupying
The Last heavy destroyer shot forwards, killing a guardsman, much to my surprise (again). The smaller warrior units advanced towards the southwestern quarter, while the larger broke cover to move to the northeast quarter. Nightbringer advanced, but his run roll was poor.
My reserves arrived, the Sentinels appeared near the Scarabs, the Special weapon team arrived behind the Command HQ, and the Grey Knights deep struck behind the Warrior squad moving through the ruin in their home quarter. They blazed at the Destroyer Necron lord who was skulking out of the Guard LOS behind the building, causing a wound. The Imperial Guard unloaded at the scarabs, the Grenade Launchers of the Platoon command, the autocannons of the fire support squad, the weapons of the sentinels and the guns of the Command HQ blazed at the swarms. At the end, there was nothing left. To add insult to injury, the Russes were free to blast down 5 of the Warriors who had broken cover in the north.
Turn Three
The Necrons advanced again, getting into range of the southwest squad and killing two. Nightbringer used it's Lightning arc at the Guard in the ruins. At this point, I had to remind my opponent that he'd just used a 360 point model to kill a 6 point model. He saw sense after that.
The Chimera shot forwards, the Squad disembarking to bring their guns to support the southwest squad against the small warrior squad. The Grey Knights advanced southwards behind the same warrior squad, adding to the fire, though for a total effect of 6 downed. The Major guard weaponry fired at the Nightbringer, with no discernible affect, but the firesupport squad caused another wound on the Destroyer Lord.
Turn Four
The Monolith arrived, scattering to close to where the Armoured Fist squad were, but was unable to shoot in the 5th edition rules.
With the exception of a small amount of movement, and the Nightbringer coming much closer to my lines,
With the exception of ineffectual shooting at the Nightbringer and the Monolith, the Grey Knights proved their worth, downing 7 warriors who had been skulking in the ruin on their side of the table all game.
Turn Five
In the Necron turn, the main problem was the Monolith. It killed 2 from my armoured fist squad, 2 from the southwest squad, and 4 from the southern squad who were close to the objective. The Small warrior squad brought their guns to bear on the armoured fists, killing all but the Veteran sergeant. The monolith also blew off the Chimera's Multilaser. The Nightbringer's Lightning Arc tore through the hull of one of the Russes, destroying it.
In my turn, the Grey Knights assaulted the last of the Warriors that were in the building, using the assault rules to drag the squad away from the objective they were holding and into combat, which was a draw. The rest of my forces either held, or failed to kill the Nightbringer, Monolith or the Destroyer Lord, who had reached my guard held ruin, but realised that I had two power fists in the Platoon command squad waiting for him...
The roll for the end of the game was made, and after looking and measuring, it was determined that the 37th Cadians has secured a 1-0 victory!
