Hi all. Ive got this question that has been bugging me for a few years now. Is Lord Solar Marcharius worth it? I mean i like how you get to replace your standard command squad officer with him, but is 170 points-ish worth it?

bit hard to put him back as he's long dead, however i'm a massive fan but not used him in 5th as you get 1st turn advantage, and with some good roles for his profile he's johnny hardballs,
but like i say i have to give him a run out in 5th

Read about him again. Lord Solar is a title not a person.

macharius is awesome, his helm gives him an invulnerable power armour save, has more wounds that most SM hq choices (not including heroes) and if you roll correctly, he can get 7 attacks at WS 5 with a master-crafted power weapon. his LD is that a commie and his trademark item makes him almost IMPOSSIBLE to run! his only flaw is that he only has a master-crafted bolt pistol and power sword.

Lord Solar Macharius- otherwise known as Alexander the Great, with tanks, lasers and ravening lunatics armed with pointy death-sticks.
The PDF profileof the man himself is nice. Good character- combination between the resilience of Commissar Yarrik and the strategic power of Uraskar Creed.

He is said to be the best IG commander ever right? I know that is an opinion but thats what the pdf says right?

The guy's fluff is pretty much literally lifted off Alexander the Great, all the way to his troops rebelling when he reached the end of the Galaxy and wanted to keep going.

i can understand, in 7 years, the guardsmen have seen more action than most do in a liftime of service, so 40-50 years-worth of combat in less than a decade is a lot

I still reacon Yarrick is more badass, though if they remake him and his model I'd probably use him.

yarrick is good, but not as good as he was in our past codex, he had a WBB roll as well as the toughness of a marine

given that they have upgraded ol' Gazghull into a mega threat now and even in the last codex for Armageddon release Gazghull versus Yarrick fought it out 6 times before they got the results that they wanted. FYI: Gazghull won four out of the six times.
I forsee something major going to happen with him (her in my armies case).

I gave the new SM codex a read the other day at my local store, and wow are there a lot of special characters, I so cant wait til the new IG codex comes out, I hope it will follow along the same line, with a wide variety of choices.
But the only bone i have to pick with GW is their crappy layout of the new dexes, eg chaos, new SM etc. Its sooo nuts, constantly having to flick back and forward to find information and points values.

Yeah, but each of the marine entries do have their relevant page number in the top right corner of their entry - which is a vast improvement.
