Hey guys, just want some opinions on this one...
I'm looking to increase my troop numbers on the board, but want to do so keeping the points low, also retaining the ability to successfully hold objectives and be highly maneuverable too.
Also I am on a monetary budget!
Would other IG armies go with the regular platoon, say command squad and 2 squads, or 20 conscripts (poss w/ commissar)?
I say you are more flexible with the regulars but can bunker down on an objective more effectively or tie up an opponent with the conscripts.
Help! Thanks

Depends on your army and your style; what're your doctorines, what do your men specialize in and what do you prefer personally? I would say regulars simply because I find they are more flexible.

I like regular with doc upgrades to give a 'small and elite' feel to them. Plus, as commissar said, they're more flexible.

it'll cost you around the same amount of real cash either way (actually 20 conscripts and a commissar costs $2 more on the US website)
with the 5 pack of guardsmen, getting a platoon together is way easier, of course you might want to add heavy weapons, in that case it'll cost you more, unless you already have plenty of heavy weapon bits laying around, which you should if you've ever gotten any heavy weapons, then there is plasma and melta guns, but if your lucky those can be bought for cheap or stolen(stealing is wrong!) from SMurf and chaps SMurf players, or you can just stick with the trusty granade launcher or flamer.
also, officers can easily be made using tank commander heads, and again you might have to buy/beg for extra gear from those SMurf players
I tend to lean toward platoon over conscripts, but a big ol tarpit of conscripts with a commissar cannot be forced off an objective, unless you kill em all or let the commissar kill them for you.

And remember- all a conscript platoon needs is grenade launchers and flamethrowers. Which you will doubtless have a surplus of....

I prefer regular platoons, they are more versitile and they use special and heavy weapons better. I also don't have the money to buy 50 conscripts =) and painting all those minis is just difficult.

I'm still working on the conversion of all my conscripts. Takes a lot of time, but from my experience the conscript platoon is just not effective unless you take it as a full squad. Similar to a Ogryn squad. If anything less than ten are there you have a nutured force.

It depends what you need, but I'd go with the normal troops, far more versitile and split into smaller squad sizes.

it all depends, if you want a giant unbreakable tarpit, conscripts. BUT you need lots'o money. regular platoons can be relatively cheap money-wise, unless you max out the platoon. it all depends.

Yah, a conscript platoon with an independant commissar in essence represents a 2-300 point investment in sheer size. On the plus side, it can hold an enemy unit or an objective for nearly forever.

and the best part, if youre really lucky, you can tie up a nasty unit like abaddon or a carnifex.
