Hello guys, I've been experimenting with my hellhounds and Leman Russ for a little while but I still haven't decided on the best way to deply the Hellhounds.
I have two of these flame tanks. I can't decide whether it's better to A) deploy them together to concentrate their BBQ skills or B) to keep them seperate.
A) This tactic is awsome at clearing an entire flank of grunts. It scared the crap out of my most usuall opponent when he realised how much AP4 was facing him. Although, they attracted ALOT of attention, they still peformed pretty well in the games where I used ths tactic. The biggest problem was that by keeping them close together the enemy found it quite easy to direct his AT fire at them.
B) This definately helped the tanks last longer but I founf it a little less devastating. The damage they inficted was more spread out and so they had less of an impact psychologically on my oponent.

Or go with option C) Pair with a Leman Russ Demolisher and watch opponent cry or D) Make a trio of Hellhounds and burn everything in a hundred-mile radius.
But from my experienceswithmy lone hellhound, it's generally a matter of what kind of opponent you are facing. If you are against Beakies, then my advice is to split themup, because your opponent will most likely ignore them unless he's got a lot of scoutson the field. If you are against anyone with a semi-realistic armour save, then I'd advise you to clump them together, because that much AP4, cover-save ignoring death is too great a threat to be ignored.

Yeah, that's what I would do. One of the advantages of 5th Edition is that you can keep any unit in reserve, so long as you declare that you have reserves when you deploy - then with Improved comms, you can keep them off the table, ready to come on and burn the enemy off your lines...
Seems like a good idea to me! ;D

I may just have to grab three hell hounds to fill my empty fast attack slots! what would you shoot? three hellhounds on one flank? or three leman russes on the other? lol
Can you move and shoot the hellhound turret in 5th edition?

Hell hounds are best deployed as kind of a mixed unit tactic. Moving a hell hound up with infantry in close proximity will generally make sure that you will get your guys up front and do some damage with the inferno cannon at the same time. However if you use them to soften up units in cover or to hurt a unit before you assault it.
The unfortunate thing is that you can't fire both the heavybolter and the inferno cannon when moving just one or the other.

I have a funny story, I usually field 3 hellhounds and give my coimmand squad 4 flamers as well. my friend was playing as chaos, I guess there is a branch where all infantry have 4+ involns. any way he deep (struck?) a termie squad and i dropped all 7 templates on them. he had like 30 wounds to save, but the dice gods were with him and saved them all.... it sucked that time. but if i get another chance i wouldn't change a thing. I just like fire.

The hell hounds I use are usually teamed up with a pair of Immolators as well.
So it is two Hell hounds trundling across the field with the twin linked immolators. The two immolators carry the Cannoness and her celestians and in the other is the nice fast attack in the form of 4 meltas and plenty of death from the SIsters
I usually call them the easy bake oven squad.

I really like the option C. Normally Infantry bumrush my two Hellhounds 'Toaster and Sliced bread' and I light maybe a fourth of the army on fire. Then, of course, the infantry that bum rushed the hellhounds get caught in a blast thanks to the +1 rule in the codex. And the rest are sitting smack dab in front of my firing line. Quite fun
