The Conscript Platoons marched aboard the transport as the leman russ followed, the shock troops took their seats on the large ship as the last of the men got in.
The transport ship was ready to leave for the planet below, the engines warmed up as the pilot readied for take off from the imperial cruisers docking bay.
The smaller escort ships were already taking off into space, the planet below was populated by kroot.
Corporal Hunter was the leader of a squad of white shields, their orders were to take out the smaller enemy installations while the shock troops and more elite units were to be freed up for the stronger enemy postitions.
The intel on the enemy was very poor, the scouts that had been sent down were some of the best, among them were a few sniper units.
The recon units werent seen again after they docked in the dense forests on the planet.
The last report they sent in was a distress signal after the recon ship was blasted by kroot anti-aircraft weapons.
Commissars walked down the aisles of troopers going to the sergeants and corporals, handing them orders and strategic locations they would have to take, and if needed, evac areas.
Corporal Hunter was given orders to take his squad, with help from another conscript squad and capture a small kroot outpost.
The commissars marched off behind the large metal doors to speak with the officers in charge of the platoons and different squads.
General Thompson marched up to the podium overlooking the troops.
"The enemy we face is a dangerous species called Kroot" he began.
"They are humanoid in appearance, they are slim and wiry, they feed on flesh and they have quills on their bodies, they have no pupils and are usually associated with the tau empire so dont be surprised if you encounter any tau warriors."
"Prepare to land, we will be on the planet in 15 minutes."
Corporal Hunter picked up his lasrifle and strapped on his helmet as the men around him did the same, the transports began to leave the docking bay with the remaining escort fighters.
The transports moved through the empty space slowly with the escorts until they moved into the atmosphere of the small forested planet.
The landing area was a patch of land surrounded by hills, covered in thick grass with tall trees around the perimeter.
The transports landed, the ramps opened up as the shocktroops ran from the seats followed by leman russ tanks and sentinels.
The Shocktroops immediately came under fire from the woods around the hills as men dropped from enemy fire the leman russ began to pump out rounds into the forrest.
All of a sudden things were quiet as the firing stopped and the smoke rose from the craters left by the leman russ.
The platoons began to move out as the tanks left down a road-like path, surrounded with infantry support the guardsmen moved out.
Corporal Hunter and the rest of the conscript platoons from all the transports disembarked from the ships onto the fields with the commissars following with them.
General Thompson entered the field mounted in his command chimera with his squad followed by kasrkin squads.
Corporal Hunter stood with his squad awaiting assignment with a commissar.
Commissar Dell walked towards him and as the rest of the conscripts began to move out, Hunter and Dell ran into the forest with the squad towards the small outpost they were ordered to take.
Kroot squads were patrolling the area and they set many traps throughout the forest.
One of the squads reported sighting of tau fire warrior squads moving throughout the hills.
Along the treelines surrounding the road a group of tau snipers took positions behind trees and logs as the imperial tanks advanced.
Tank Commander Derlan opened the hatch to oversee the terrain ahead, as he raised his binoculars to his face, a shot from a tau rifle blow apart the top of his head, sending brains and melted skull across the back of the tank as his body collapsed into the turret void of life.
The crew panicked as they're commander dropped through the turret, they scoped out any possible targets through the view port as another man closed the hatch and latched it shut.
The tank rolled forward as tau snipers tried to shoot through the viewport.
The Leman Russ behind it rolled on until they hit a cross roads and split up in search of the main command post.
Meanwhile General Thompson was operating a vox caster as incoming reports of tau troops and kroot moving through the forest became more frequent.
The Corporal Hunter advanced with his group through some trees before encountering a trail going through the forest and then leading to a field, Commissar Dell was hesitant to advance at first as there were reports of tau in the area but as they regrouped with Corporal Devis' squad they proceeded through the empty field.
General Thompson called to the orbiting fleet for air support, almost immediately a squadron of valkarie gunships descended onto the planet with a few extra squads aboard.
One stopped at the landing zone, deploying a group of medics as they established a field hospital between some landed transports.
Corporal Hunter continued through the field with Devis' squad and Commissar Dell cautiously.
Hunter checked his map to see how far away the objective was, only a few miles off.
A valkarie flew over them, towards where they were headed.
The conscripts rushed after it, Hunter was unsure if it was safe, Devis ran with them, as soon as they reached the treeline a burst of fire wiped out devis' squad with a few troopers from hunters command.
Devis lay there injured from shots to his shoulders, still able to move his arms he started returning fire while crawling backwards.
A few injured troopers from his squad raised their arms up to surrender, Dell drew out his bolt pistol and shot both of the troopers as they walked towards the treeline underfire from the enemy and the commissar.
Hunter though to himself if it was necessary to do so, to give the troopers no choice between enemy fire and our own.
Devis dropped his rifle and attempted to run back to out small ditch, Dell raised his pistol and fired, the bolt nearly shattered the corporals helmet as it hit.
"Call for reinforcements" Yelled Dell over the gunfire.
"I cant sir, the vox box is among the dead" Hunter replied.
"Then retrieve it"
Hunter picked up his rifle and started crawling towards the dead conscript squad slowly.
After treacherously making it towards the body pile under enemy fire he frantically searched for it, finally, laying under a dead trooper was the vox caster.
Hunter picked up the box and slung it to his back, crawling back quikly and collapsing behind the trench, Dell immediatly grabbed the vox caster and opened it, taking the reciever and holding it to his ear.
"We need reinforcements" He shouted into the reciever
"There is a vakarie in the area"
Then suddenly it clicked off, no response.
The valkarie on the other end of the treeline was pinned under fire, making emergency repairs to one of the engines.
Sergeant Wallace picked up a lasrifle from an ammo container as the kroot soldiers marched forward brandishing crude knives and guns.
Private Kaufman manned the heavy stubber and began firing at the advancing enemy while the mechanic, lieutenant May began work on the burnt out engine.
Wallace began firing rapidly at the krootian horde closing in on them.
The Valkarie rocked from right to left under the fire from the kroot warriors.
Corporal Hunter was still under heavy fire which seemed to be stopping, then nothing at all.
"This is our chance!" Dell shouted as the conscripts got up screwing on their bayonets.
Hunter nervously screwed on the adamantium blade and ran forward through the treeline, there was a thick haze of smoke from the downed valkarie.
"Where are they" a trooper whispered, not wanting to attract attention from the enemy.
Dell drew his sword as they saw small patches of flame from singed trees.
A scream ran through the forest around them as they began running forward, the only way out was through a crossfire between their own allies and the krootians.
Dell ran forward firing his bolt pistol, jumping onto the bay of the valkarie he raised his pistol to the face of a guardsmen that emerged from the cockpit.
It was the co-pilot, shocked to find a survivor Dell nearly pulled the trigger, he lowered the pistol as Hunter arrived with his troopers.
"Where is the rest of the crew?"
"I dont know, I blacked out when we crashed."
All of a sudden the mechanic jumped up from the ground with a box of tools.
"The engine is repaired!"
"Can this bird fly now?" A trooper asked.
"It should be able to now" May said with a sound of relief in his voice.
"I didnt think aid was coming."
Dell didnt say a word, raising his pistol towards the mist of smoke as a dark figure emerged, it was sergeant wallace carrying a wounded comrade.
"They're coming!" he shouted as the sound of trees rustling behind the smoke was heard.
Wallace dropped his lasrifle on the deck and climbed into the pilots seat as his co-pilot followed.
The engines sputtered for a little while as the ship began to take off, the side doors closed as the last of Hunters team jumped aboard.
May manned the heavy stubber, taking out as many kroot as he could see before a pulse round hit him in the arm, the smell of melted skin and bone rang through the air aboard the ship as the medic tended to his wound.
"we'll have to amputate it." The medic said as the arm wound became clearly visible.
"Turn this thing around, if you want your lieutenant to live we need to get him to a field hospital!"
Wallace turned the damaged valkarie around at a sharp angle, flying as quikly as he could through the air.
The communications antenna was busted, as was the system itself.
"This ship is a wreck." Dell said to hunter as they began to close in on the landing zone.
"Here we are!" Wallace shouted to the troopers aboard.
2 Troopers picked up May and helped him to the makeshift field hospital.
The surgeons began work on may's arm as General Thompson walked over to Hunter, presenting him with a small imperial medal.
"You've just made sergeant, Gongradulations!" He said.
"Thank you sir!" Hunter said, saluting as he walked away.
Meanwhile in the dense forests the shocktroopers fell prey to crude boobytraps set among the trees.
The Tanks has to a maintain their positions or else risk the roadside anti-tank mines.
Sergeant Green and his squad ran fast through the forest, attacking the tau with bayonets and setting ambushes against the kroot warriors from the treetops.
Green and his squad found a ravine past the forest.
Thats all for now!
