hi,
i am currently putting together a imperial guard army that will hopefully prove that we can actually carry more punch then a SMurf army.
so in my attempt to make a hard hitting force i am wondering if three demolishers is to many or if they are the best option?

Yeah IMO two demolisher's with plasma cannons are enough, tag along a basilisk and you've got a hell of a lot of anti-SMURF templates.

I agree, the fear factor will be enough to put them off
PS, plasma cannons really aren't that useful on demolisher, save points by not having sponsons, you can only fire one weapon per turn if you're moving (which you should be doing if your demolisher cannon ain't in range), so fire the lascannon. (cause all weapons are offensive).
Anyway, I like your thinking, its always funny when you can do that, but personnally I'd only use 3 demolishers in apocaplypse or on specialy occasions just if I'm versing someone I really want to hurt, just have them as reserves to your normal force.

I say take the Plasma sponsoon.
The give the Demol a hell of a lot of mid range hitting power. With a hull HB and a Heavy stubbers anything that comes within range is in for a hard time.
I only use the Demol cannon if something gets too close.
I use my demol as a defensive bunker. It covers my HW teams whilst the rest of my force moves around.

i think i might not use plasma cannon sponsons to save points. and as i am using them as offensive tank i will be moving all over the field i wont need them anyway

If you want to do that, take a leman russ destructor with heavy bolter sponsons and sit it back and blow anything that gets too close away. use the demolisher to take the fight to the enemy, especially with new ordanance rules!

agreed Mr.socks but in my armoured company list i think a leman russ exterminator will suit the cause better with a hull mounted heavy bolter and heavy bolter side sponsons to sit back and blast whatever gets close

It depends on the application of the demolishers. I intend on getting a squadron of them with plasma cannons primarily for apocalypse (combined with teh flank march asset). In doing this i hope to negate their short range and allow them to get up close and personal.
The new ordinance rules help this out, and this is an awesome tactic for hammerheads (KILL EM ALL) or other various things that need str 10 ap2 templates unleashed.
Combine this with the Ace Gunner doctrine for even greater odds of getting frags
