I don't remember everything perfectly, so I'm goign to try to get everythign as best I remember. It was 1500 points of my guard versus my buddies space marines. We didn't have an appropriate sized table, so we improvised. It was a 3x6 table, so we played lengthwise. We rolled for mission, and it turned out to be annihilation. Once everything was deployed, I took my first turn.
I moved 4 squads into cover that was closer to the enemy, and moved up a Chimera containing my Kasrkins. No casualties on my shooting phase. He moved up one of his tactical squads into some cover, and brought up his razorback, containing his 300something point command squad. During his shooting phase, his Predator's lascannons managed to knock out the chimera, forcing the Kasrkins out of the vehicle. With all my squads in position I began to lay down whithering fire. My lascannon team scored a glancing, and a penetrating hit, forcing his Razorback to be immobilized, and destroying its weapon system. No casualties from other fire. With his razorback disabled, the crew dismounted, and a tactical squad at his side he moved forwards. During his shooting phase, he managed to knock out the forward most squad, getting him a kill point. I held firm with my squads, and opened fire. His command squad, and his tactical squad both became targets for my leman russ tanks. I fired a round from the battlecannon at both squads, all hitting dead on. I killed everything except his special character, and a single marine from the tactical squad. He was pissed. His turn, he moved the single marine(that passed his save) and his commander foward, and decided to deepstrike his assault squad. Big mistake. They fired a few boltpistol shots, with no result. Again I stood fast, and continued to poor on the fire. My leman russ tanks fired both their battlecannon shots at his predator, both scattering way off target. The guardsman opened fire on the deep striking assault marines, and killed all but one. When it came time to roll, he failed his save, and was forced to run 9 inches towards the table edge. The rest of the squads(4) fired at his commander and the tactical marine. Every single once of them he passed his save. It was very irritating. During his movement, both his commander, and the tactical marine were able to move close enough to prepare for an assault. Firing a few shots, some guardsman went down. Then they assaulted, killing everything they got into combat against. The 5th ed rules saved me big time, becuase he would have just kept rolling through my lines of guardsman, but he couldn't. With almost nothing on the board on his end, going into detail will be annoying. Anyway, by the end of the game, He had 5 kill points, and I had 4. I ended up killing his commander, his assault squad, his tactical squad, and his commanders retinue. He killed 3 guard squads, my lascannon team, and my chimera, giving him his 5 points. It was a very minor victory on his part, becuase I murdered the crap out his marines, with him killing a measly amount of my guardsman(I had over 80 guardsman on the board, an AC team, a lascannon team, a chimera, and 2 leman russ tanks).
High points were:
1.)Both battlecannons killing the crap out of his commander retinue and tactical squad.
2.)His ranged combat being nearly ineffective in comparison with mine.
3.) Totally ruining his plan to rush his Razorback forward and get into CC by the 3rd turn.
Low points:
1.) Him barely barely barely winning
2.) him making sooooooo many of his saves
3.) He didn't bring as much forward as I had expected, starving me of things to get kill points off of.
It was a fun game, and it helped him learn the 5th Ed rules. He figured out what doesn't work in his army(from 4th to 5th). This is why I got into the Guard. I brought sooooo much death upon him. The weakest guns in the game brought down an entire assault squad. My guys definitely made their points worth, and then some.
